I use a 9 twist in my 7WSM for the 180 bergers, and my brother uses a 9 twist in his .284 for the 180 Bergers. I can't imaging that it will be a problem for teh Hornady 162s, unless you are using a 20" barrel or something else exceptionally short.
I have a 1:9.5 twist 284win/7mm from Kieger. Finished at 24" and shooting 150-160gr hunting bullets.
I did quite a bit of research to come up with my 9.5 twist, and can say almost for certain that a 9 will shoot your 162 Amax's well. Your Amax's have a longer bearing surface as oppose to my none VLD bullets with much shorter bearing surface.

I'm shooting a 1-8 twist on my 1K 7mm-08 with moly 162 a-max's
No complaints. will shoot one-hole groups at 100 yards and hold the x-ring at 1K if I do my part
I shoot the 162 A-Max from my 284 Win and my 1-9 twist barrel is doing fine. I was originally going to shoot the 180 Bergers so I went with the 1-9 but hey what can I say I went with the little red tipped bullets. Later,
