284 Shehane is shooting - now I need a spotter!

Ever since my 1296 yard PD kill last Sept. I have been preparing for the 1 mile attempt.

http://forum.accurateshooter.com/index.php?topic=3797545.msg36129233#msg36129233

My first 284 barrel would not shoot well enough, so I had to do a second barrel. I went with a 32" straight 1.25 dia. this time. It shoots as the attached 200 yd and 500 yd targets attest.

So, I'm madly loading ammo getting ready for the trip to the 10,000 acre ranch bordering the National Grasslands in Wyoming (leaving Sept. 7 for a week) when my spotter calls up today and tells me he isn't going to be able to make it. My regular PD partner had a mild stroke the day before Easter Sunday and it affected his vision, so he can't make things out farther than about 10 feet any more. What's a guy to do?

Any volunteers for long range PD shooting in a couple of weeks?

Hey IR, what is your load info? Bullet (+seating depth), powder, charge and primer? Thanks, that looks like excellent shooting!

Pretty good shooting. The es is a little high compared to what I'm seeing with mine. Are you loading with a charge master?

I live in Colorado Springs, when and where does this hunt take place? If the timing is right I'd love to go.

It's LR and the load data is on the 200 yd target. Be careful. It's a Shehane and it's a hot load.

I weigh each charge to the nearest kernel with the A&D FX-120i. The ES on the bottom group was high because of the slow speed on the wet fouler (typical when blowing out the cleaning solution residue with the first shot after cleaning), but it didn't affect POI this time. It usually does. My average ES is about 20 FPS. Although I have groups below it quite frequently, I just can't seem to get the average to 10 FPS like some claim they are doing.

I've been trying to get my son to go with me for the last 3 years and 5 trips. I called him right after the OP and guess what? He said he would go this year! I guess he wants to see that 1 mile thing with his own eyes. LOL

You might try CCI br primers to help that es. I don't really know. I've had very low numbers with BR's. Good luck at a mile. Do let us know.

Thanks LR... Sorry about the "IR"...My eyes are not what they used to be.. I had to "blow up" the pic to see the load info.. Thanks, I appreciate it..

No problem. I changed the first three letters to capitals so no one else gets tripped up by that font. The 'R' is for Ron. That's what everyone calls me (when they are being nice, that is!).

My son has the spotter slot covered unless he too cancels at the last minute, which he has been known to do.

What I COULD use is a fellow VHA member to confirm any long range kills.

Well I am a member and a very decent spotter. If son backs out I would need a couple of days to be available. E-mail me at deanbrown@sasktel.net with your phone number and we could see about setting something up for just in case.
