284 reamer specs for 162-180 grainers?

Anyone got the sweet spot for the freebore on a 284 thats going to be loaded with the 162 - 180 grainers? From what Ive seen and read it looks like .180 -.188 of fb may be the ticket.???

Probably gonna turn my necks too so if you have the neck specs that would help me also.

The neck is .313 (.310 loaded round), but I would suggest a little more freebore than that if you plan to use any 180 grain bullets other than the Berger hybrid. The 180 VLDs will seat into the donut area on my .189 freebore and I can't shoot them without inside boring the necks, which I don't want to get into.

I can think of no reason to choose less than .200" FB in the 284 for a single-loading rifle. In fact, I can think of no reason to choose less than .220".

So that you can use a throating reamer and get a better leade finish.

I'd go with .200" - .220". That provides a little more leeway for donuts.

spoke with john whidden last friday and he said he's got a reamer with .212 freebore thats getting the perfect results right now when loading the 168-180s " Looks like you guys were in the right range as well.
