284 necked up to 30?

Mine shoots pretty good.
A little more horse power than a 308.
Slow twist for 120 gr.,great for 500 M steel.
Solid 1/2min or better.
Would I get another barrel for it?probably not.

Powder capacities are for all intents and purposes identical. Which makes sense, because the case was intentionally created from it's inception to that very thing, but at a length that would cycle through the Winchester model 100 auto loader.

The only difference is the size of action needed to house them. If you are loading long pointy bullets, then they both will need a long action anyway. Then the only advantage to the 284 case is the short fat powder column theory that many subscribe to.

Personally, in this case and in my opinion, that point is irrelevant. This would literally end up being a case of "6 of one and half dozen of the other" except the cost and time of a wildcat cartridge vs a 102 year old world standard cartridge. But that doesn't mean no one should do it. By all means, go ahead and know that you can use 30-06 reloading data as a ready made guide.

There is a fellow on this forum (albeit it rarely) named Matt Davis. I used to shoot with Matt at Bayou Rifles. The 7mm Walker (created by Mark Walker) is a "straight" .284 with a 40 degree "Acklyized" shoulder. Matt took this offering and necked it up to .30 cal. He re-named it the .300 Davis. It shoots well with 200 grain bullets BUT hardly any real gain over a .308 pushing limits with "Palma Brass". It has the same attendant "loose primer pocket" issues that emanate from the 6.5 x 284 case. So "pushing it" is out of the question. Matt is rarely on here these days, however, you could find his handle something like MDavis8853 or some such nomenclature. He would be glad to help you. He is a good guy and he "knows his stuff".. He is from Houston, Texas..

how do you make that brass? I need to make some!!

You can simply run a .284 Win case into a 7.5x55 Swiss FL die. The only problem is the 284 rim is smaller than the Swiss case rim. This will cause an occasional extraction problem.
I did this when 7.5x55 brass was harder to find. Now you can just order Norma or Prvi Partizan brass from Graf & Sons. The Prvi Partizan brass costs less than the Norma and works fine for the limited shooting i do.
