284 neck clearance

Just ran 20 rounds down my new 284 barrel. I think it has a .318 neck
I did skim turn the necks before firing. (Peterson)
My bullets are not dropping down into a fired case without a little force.
Before I go any farther, should I turn another .001 off the rest of the cases
before I fire them?

The short answer is yes. I run .002 clearance a side, have for several years. .309 loaded round in a .313 chamber. It's always better to have a little more clearance than not enough.

From what I have read here on several threads regarding 284Win or SH they all tend to prefer "more" clearance. Like 1Shot says 2 a side is fine, I have read of up to 4 a side.

I am on my 14th 284 barrel. I run .005 total and have gotten along great with it.

My reamer for Peterson brass has a 0.320 neck. I think that provides 0.0045 to 0.005 clearance with my brass.

Mine is .319" and just barely allows a bullet to drop into the fired neck with Peterson unturned brass.

I went .321 to handle my Peterson brass. So far she's chambering and extracting like a dream.
