.280AI

I went from a regular 280 to the 280AI when the barrel on my 280 was finally shot out to the point of major accuracy loss.I had lots of 280 Rem. brass and bullets,so I fire formed my brass by jamming cheap 7MM bullets into the lands with a starting load of a powder that I had on hand and didn't like. The AI is a great round and mine's not picky about what I feed it.I set mine up with minimal headspace, and trimming is rarely needed. My best load was with the 160 grain Sierra Tipped Matchking running 3,000 FPS.The best 5 shot group with that one was a .194 at 100 yards. It performs great out to 1,000 yards, and watching the 160 grain TMK's hit a steel target at 600 yards alongside a 308 shooting 168's will blow your mind how much harder the 7MM bullets are hitting at that range.
Thanks for the info, I think I've got a rifle headed my way soon. I'm kind of a procrastinator but I'll something posted up someday...

Hunted with a 280AI - superb. Used 150 Scirocco's at 3050 fps. Deadly. R22 proved to be the best.
I love the input from half a world away. FYI, I live 55 miles away from Swift bullets. They're just too expensive for me. I will be looking into some of the solids from Barnes.

Don't take this wrong, I meant nothing derogatory.

To be honest - I managed to get some a long time ago at the right price - may even have been at an estate sale or similar. Picked up 3 boxes.

280 is no slouch was my first hunting rifle I bought from my uncle. Custom mauser hammered a lot of deer with that thing. Still have it and should dust off the cob webs one of these days. Shoot a cooper 280ai now and love it. Ultimate elk and moose rifle have not had one get away and rarely a follow up shot. From distances of 50-450 yards. Also use this calibre for my Fclass gun and loves 180 eldm and the 190atips now that it’s throated properly.
