280ai powder suggestion

Looking on reccomendations for the following powders in my 23 inch 280ai and the 168 ablr with large rifle primers.
I have the following ppwders available
N560
H4350
7828SSC
BIG GAME
Varget

Which should i try first, and powder charge if anyone has reccomendations?

You'll get the best speed with the N560 as it's the slowest on your list that Nosler lists for that bullet, and H4350 is the fastest you'd probably want to use. Varget, Big Game are probably faster than you want, and 7828ssc is probably slower than you want.

When I had my 280 AI, I used H4831sc at around 55.5 grains for that bullet.

I'm using 7828SCC in Nosler brass with CCI LR #200 Primer behind a 162gr ELD-X with great accuracy and velocity.

I did a workup from 58.0gr to 61.9, and saw my best accuracy (0.55") at 61.5 with an avg velocity of 3049 over three (3) shots. I only loaded up to 61.9, and I didn't see any signs of pressure at all. I did get some responses on my other thread here of people saying AI's don't always show pressure until you're well over pressure though? Dunno on that.

I also did a workup of H4831SC in Nosler brass with CCI LR #200 Primer behind the same 162gr ELD-X. Started at 54.0gr and worked up to 59.6. Accuracy was pretty good @ .71" with velocity avg at 2846 over three (3) shots. Same as the 7828SCC, no signs of pressure. That was just the top load that I had put together for this testing.

For me, the 7828SCC was a true performer and the one I'm sticking with.

Can't get my hands on RL26, but I've read good things about it in the 280ai. Reality though, I'm getting their results with RL26 using IMR7828SCC.....so I don't feel too bad not being able to test with it.

I use IMR 7828 with 168-180g bullets, and the Federal 210 puts the bullets opening up a hole. Primers other than 210's caused the groups to be open. Sorted Nosler 175g LRAB shoot tiny groups seated .005 off the lands.

Thank you

I use 7828 and H4831 with the 180s. I have used Staball 6.5 and H4350 with 168s.

My vote among your powders would be H4350 and N560.

H4350 is a little quick and may leave your case partly full. For hunting rounds I tend to prefer full cases for best ignition in low temps.

Another powder I’m seeing on the shelves right now I’d H4831SC. This works well and fills the case.

R23 and H4831 are fantastic for that case capacity and bullet weight range.

H4350, 7828ssc and N560 will definitely work.

Of the powders you list, N560 and 7828SSC are the ones to work with. If you can lay hands on RL26, it will give you top performance. It is the perfect match to bullets in the 160 to 168 weight range in the 280 Rem/280 AI case.

I concur.
R26 is fantastic in that bore and case volume for 168 up to 190’s.

N565 or Reloader 23 if you can find some. H4831sc gave me great accuracy but slow velocity in mine. N565 gave me another 170fps and the same great accuracy, same with 23.

61gr N560 is the cat's pajamas with 175 grain Bergers, in Nosler brass, @ 2912fps, out of my 24" Bartlein barrel.

Today, 76.5F 1206DA IMR 7828 57.4gr, 180 Scenar Fed 210, I had one 2880 and one 2873 on shots 23/24 that pushed the ES up. Let them sit in the barrel too long waiting for barrel mirage. The first 15 shots had SD under 6. We will see how tight it stays when it gets 95 which will be really soon.
