280AI deer bullets

I will be getting a new rifle chambered for the 280AI in a few months.
I would like some advice on which bullet I should use on whitetail.
Distance could be anywhere from 50yds to 300 yds.
Any help will be appreciated. Many thanks.

I like the nosler partition over the BT, the one time I tried them they blew up to much for my taste. Just my 2 cents worth.

The Nosler bullets are good bullets, Bergers sometimes act like FMJ's, the best bullet by far is the Barnes TTSX or the new LRX. With a 300yd max shot, you don't need the LRX as it's a vld design. Every bit as accurate as a Berger in hunting rifles but more devastating. There isn't another bullet today that equals the TTSX in pure putting trauma to the animal. DRT is normal. No tracking. I've seen severely marginal hits not go far with them. I've shot a LOT of all of the above bullets and what is loaded in every caliber that I shoot on big game is Barnes.

Don't want to recommend Hornady 139 or 154 Interlocks or SST's. That's because it might increase demand and drive up prices while limiting availability.

Deer are little things. No earthly reason to pay the money for a premium bullet on them. Last deer I shot this past season was a 192 lb. 10 pt at 490 yards. DRT from a 154 gr. 7mm SST. Interlock would have been the same.

They shoot well, don't cost a premium and work. What more would you want?

I agree with Capt Mal. 280AI is plenty of gun even for the largest of white tails 300yds and under. Pick about any bullet designed for hunting, 140gr or heavier, that shoots well in your rifle. I doubt you will be disappointed. I only buy premium bullets for my hunting rifles that are 25 cal and less these lighter bullets that are driven at a high velocity need to be good quality to hang together and penetrate deeply.

I have shot them with 140 gr Barnes X, WW Fail Safe, Nosler Partition, Ballistic Tip and Accubond out of my .280 over the past 25 or so years. All worked acceptably well; however, I have come to depend on the 140 Accubond for deer out to over 400 yards. I know most deer are not that big and there are many good bullets out there, but the 140 Accubond has delivered very consistently with accuracy, expansion and penetration. 12 in the last 3 years from 60 to 419 yards is a pretty good test.

Try some Sierra 140gr Game kings, They are cheaper than most other brands and the deer fall just the same!!

All recommendations prior are on target without a doubt. Your investment in the equipment will be repaid by results downrange through your own research and target time. I don't think you will be disappointed by the results on paper or on live game whichever bullet your rifle prefers.

I have had excellent results with Nosler 150 Ballistic Tips, Hornady 154 SST, and the Nosler 140 Accubond. Powders that have worked for me with these bullets have been Norma MRP and RE 22. I think you will really like the 280 AI, it accurate and pure poison on whitetails!

I have had good results (accuracy and expansion/mushrooming) with Sierra 140-150-160 Spitzer Boat Tails (SBT) in .280/.280 AI/ 7mm mag,,,,,,,,,really like the 160's for elk/caribou/bear/moose,,,,I have not hunted for them all ,,but have loaded ammo that has been used by shooting customers/friends for everything from deer to grizzly bear with good results,,,,one user complained when he shot a brown bear that was facing him at 50 yds and he shot it just below the mouth in the neck and the bullet was found in its butt cheek !!!! The bullet went thru 6 or 7 feet of the bear!!!hahah,,,and no exit wound,,,,,,prolly had 50% of its weight left,,,,Roger
