280 AI seating die

My rifle is chembered in 280 AI SAAMI spec. Can I use a standard 280 die to seat? I have a Redding 280 AI resizer, just curious about the seating die.

Not really. I tried putting a 280AI round into the 280Rem seater, and it only went in part way. The reason it won't go all the way into the die is that the 280AI case was changed from a taper to a (more) straight walled case. Fitting it into a tapered seater die just doesn't work. I doubt if you would be able to seat a bullet in that die if the 280AI case was only part way inserted.

Only until you fireform the brass. After that, no. I prefer the Redding Competition Seating dies. For my 20 Bobcat, I had my gunsmith use the reamer to open up the Competition die sliding sleeve, so now I have a 20 Bobcat seater.

If you really want to seat bullets concentric in a 280 AI {or anything else for that matter} suggest you look at the L.E. Wilson Straight Seater die.

I built a wildcat without having a seating die, I used the 7MM Remington mag seating die. A friend build a 7MM 06 Gibbs type wildcat, same thing. I gave him a 7MM Remington mag seating die.

He goes back to the old says when smiths made a set of dies for every reamer/chamber they made. He wanted dies like the ones his old mentor made, I told him my equipment would not hold up to that kind of work.
