280 ai krieger vs. Lothar Walther

My first custom build was a 30-06 using a rem 700 trued action matched up to a 26" LW stainless barrel magnum contoured. I chose LW in that instance because I had planned to shoot A LOT, and the added barrel life from the super hard steel appealed to me. Saying that, it is a real shooter. 1/2 MOA out of a Mickey, pillar/bedded stock. That is the best the nut behind the trigger is capable of. It may shoot better, but I can't. LW did a absolutely great job hand lapping the barrel. It is what I would call a "fast" barrel. All of my hand loads are shooting 100 + fps faster than my manuals say they should. Customer service was great and they gave me exactly what I asked for. Did I just get lucky with this one?

My second build, I plan on going with a 280 ai. So, I thought I may try out a few different build parts. I am going with a Surgeon long action (I haven't decided about their bottom metal yet) and was thinking about mating a Krieger barrel to it and sending it to Long Rifles inc. for all of the smith work.
I have done several searches for krieger vs. lothar walther and, in general, people say to go with the krieger but there are almost no explanations as to the choice. Why are the LW barrels considered a lower quaility than Krieger? Is there another company you would recommend over either of these for a 7mm barrel, and if so why?

I appreciate any responses. I am still a complete newb when it comes to custom builds, so any solid advice would be very much appreciated.

Edit: I should mention that I am interested in hunting rifles, not BR rifles. i wanted to post this here because the BR shooters I know seem to have a solid reason behind their choices (whether or not that reason is, in fact, correct).

I think I answered you on one of the other forums that you posted this subject. I have definite reasons for using Kreiger way more than the other mentioned barrel.

I go with Krieger because I've always had good luck with them. We've had some Lothar's and they shot great but they seem to be harder to get than the other quality barrels so I quit trying to use them. Brian Brown.

What you are asking is akin to Ford vs. Chevy. There are many good barrels out there. Look at the match reports and if you still want a Lothar barrel, buy one, and let us all know how it does. --Mike

I appreciate the responses. I am going to give Long Rifles Inc a call again on Monday and discuss the issue with him. At this point, Krieger has been 100% recommended over the LW so I will most probably give them a try. The 5r rifling was also recommended on another site. The only difficulty I am seeing, going with Krieger is the .284 barrels start at at #5 contour in stainless. I never doubted the Krieger reputation, I was just curious about the LW reputation compared to Krieger. I will post pics etc as soon as parts start arriving.
