280 AI brass

Short of melting down the brass and starting over at the factory, it can't be done. 280 is longer and has a smaller head size than .284 (and 6.5x284).

If you mean making .284 brass out of 6.5-2.84, then just neck up with an expander, and turn off the donut (or turn necks to desired size).

What would the process be to make 280 AI brass out of 6.5x284 brass? I have plenty 6.5x284 Lapua.

As was stated above, - A little advice as I'm a 280 AI shooter. - Go with the Nosler Brass and Don't look back, there'll be some suggest you use Lapua 30-06 brass & fire-form & you'll end up with brass that has short necks. - Get some Nosler 280 AI brass and do a full preparation routine on it, sort it by weight and I'm willing to bet you be quite pleased with the end results.

Norma brass is solid - they stopped making 280AI brass but their 280 brass holds up quite well and is a cheaper (and better IMO) option than Nosler.

Nosler does a piss poor job of keeping up with production of brass, "in stock" seems to be hit and miss.

100% agree on that. And you'd think where they developed their own proprietary cartridges like the 26, 28, 30 & 33 Nosler they'd want to have that brass always available for the users who decided to either purchase or chamber a rifle "IN Their Caliber".

But for the 280 A.I. I still stand by what I previously stated. - It's less fuss & muss and the brass that I've gotten (400 pieces) has been consistent and worked out well. - And I don't believe that Norma & especially Hornady brass exceeds the Nosler's quality.

I agree with you also, LA50shooter! If you find any of the nosler brass and want a caliber in what they make, you are forced into hoarding immediately upon finding any company that has it on the shelf.

If you are going to be in business, then be in business!

Nosler needs time to get up to speed. All of the equipment had to be moved from Silver State Armory, set-up once again, then the tweaking process begins. It's only been a year or so since they started production.

A lot of the bean counters are probably NOT shooters at Nosler. Bean counters will want to sell loaded ammo vs components, totally oblivious to the benefits in working up loads for their own rifles. Also, there are many guys that have never fired a round of factory ammo in their life!

I hope for their sake that they can get production up to meet the public's demand or else OUT of STOCK conditions will doom their new cartridges, some of which are spectacular.

haha,,,here is that guy who uses 30-06 Lapua,,,just FF em and they will serve you well,,,ooo yea,,the neck will be ~.040" short,,,at least you wont have to trim em,,,ever,,,Roger
