280 Ackley

I load 63 grains of Retumbo with Nosler brass and a 168 Berger Hunting VLD with a CCI magnum primer. My rig has a Pac Nor 26" STS. barrel with a trued and blueprinted Remy action. Have only shot white tails with it but drops them where they stand and the Berger bullet works exactly the way they advertise !

msinc, that is exactly why I will not own a really light rifle anymore. I will carry a couple extra pounds just because of that, If i am gonna worry about 2 extra pounds i will go on a diet and loose 2 pds.

You have a great point, one that I am starting to wish I had thought of BEFORE I bought this thing...in all fairness I have only done three shooting sessions with it. It gets hot quick, so I have to take my time. I absolutely love everything about this rifle though, I am hopeful that I can get used to it's light weight...but so far it is a real challenge!!!

Billy stevens carried 11lbs of nosler 280ai rounds to africa and shot them in a regular 280ack imp the reamer of which i know for a fact was bought in 1997, loaded on my personal redding dies bought the same year. Im 99% sure bart did the exact thing, same lot of brass, same dies, same reamer- all went off without a hitch like it was planned that way. All brass reloaded without any problems and were able to be sized prior to fireforming to fit the chamber just like any ack imp load since they came out. So as far as we can tell after that 22lbs of ammo it worked out well.

In spite of the cold I had to go out and shoot today...62.0 grains of IMR 7977 "Enduron" powder, a Sierra 140 grain boat tail spire point and a Remington 9 1/2 large rifle primer was working real nice in my Kimber. Full length resized and annealed Hornady 280 brass previously fire formed and the bullet seated with a L.E. Wilson straight line seater just touching the lands.
This rifle is very light {Mountain Ascent} and is a challenge to shoot good groups with. Prior to this load I was able to get about 3" out of it...this load took it down to about 1" average. I would like to see what I could do with this ammo in a heavy barrel rifle like I am used to shooting.
My next load tested will be 63.0 grains of Alliant RL-22 behind the same bullet, same everything else. Snowing right now, don't know when I will get to shoot, but I will post about it...good or bad.
