ireload2,
Why do you recommend "NO flat tail" bullets in: a) mt.rifle; b) .280 Rem; c) 7mm/.284? Choose one.
I think you meant why he recommended NO boat tail.

OP,
You said you got it to shoot < 1 MOA. That's all you can expect from a mass-produced rifle, especially a lighweight pencil barreled one.
That "trick" about a dry brass brush down and back, followed by a dry patch down and out? I think you should pretend you never read that, and forget it. Clean it as you normally would, go out and as soon as you shoot a sub-MOA group. with POI where you want it, put the gun immediately in the travel case and leave it there until such time the gun is required on the hunt.

Sound advise. After I have my hunt'n clubs tuned, sighted in and bores fouled they remain uncleaned until I'm done using them for the season.OP,

I just gave up on mine, I could not get anything to group with it. Mine is off the smith for a new barrel in 284 win and I will be shooting the 183gr Sierra bullets.
My 26 " adams and bennet will shoot the 168 SMK's great with 49.5 grains of IMR 4350.Any body have any loads, suggestions on how to get a 700 Mountain Rifle in 280 Rem to shoot 139, 154 hornady's or 160 gr Speer btsp's or any other bullet accurately? This thing is getting to be a pita. Barlow
Mine was getting 3 inch groups no matter what I tried! very frustrating and expensive. What kind of groups were you able to print?
PS I just started working up a new load for my 270 Win (your 280 Rem's cousin, once removed) after running the Tubb Final Finish fire-lapping regimen through it (an old M77 roundie) and the results so far are quite promising. I fully expect to have a reliable 1/2 MOA hunter with an almost 40-year-old factory barrel.
