272 Nk 6BR

I have used 268 , 267 bushings no expander ball . Tried 266 and was crazy tight seating Bullets and poor groups . Really only played with one bullet and one powder .... Varget and 105 Hybrid . BR 4 seemed to be the best primer .... have fired 150-170 rounds with no joy .

Hi guys
In loading for straight 6BR what neck clearance is acceptable? I’m asking because I’m getting random fliers . On fired cases about every 3rd one I can’t insert a bullet into the neck ....
Rifle is Bat SV with Krieger 1-8 4grove ( not sure if 236 or 237 )
Chamber is 272 no turn with 105 FB
Have been using varget 30.0-30.5 / 105 Hybrids / CCI 450
Moral of the story it’s not grouping very consistent..... good one day , poor the next
Ideas on the above would be greatly appreciated, I was thinking of skimming necks to get .003 -.0035 clearance . FYI loaded rounds are presently .2695-.2700

I don't have the knowledge the others have, however this is what I would address first.
Don

I’ll try skimming them Dusty . Looks like it wants to shoot . Two in same hole but one always takes off on three shot groups .... Doesn’t seem very consistent.
Okay, let me ask this, have you checked the scope, rings and the base? I had a 30br that did the two in one hole and a flyer, when I pulled the score one of the screws that held the base was broken off. Just a thought

If you cant slip a bullet in a fired case you have found your answer. If you dont believe me mark your cases and shoot groups. Let us know how the neck turning turns out

It would help if you told us exactly what is meant by ----On fired cases about every 3rd one I can’t insert a bullet into the neck …. Is this at the bottom of the neck / shoulder junction where a donut would form or at the mouth of the neck where the bullet first enters.? If you have a donut, run a mandrel and turn. If it's at the mouth, run a mandrel and turn. We all know something isn't right. ;}

I used new brass to start . Expanded and loaded . Brass has about 5-6 cycles on it . I’m not annealing .... I don’t believe spring back is an issue , but could be wrong ( fired case OD is the same ) . Rifle has gone back to owner, will see if he figured something out . Thanks to everyone for there input .

Sorry for popping up this old thread... but did you ever figure out the issues of the flier?

No Sir . Thinking the barrel just didn’t like that bullet / powder combo ? Got better jamming bullets but still not what I was looking for . Owner passed away a couple years ago .
Still one of life’s great mysteries Lol …..
