.270 WSM

I am building a long-range target rifle off a Remington 700 action that I have blueprinted and I would like to know What is the optimum barrel length for a .270 WSM. What do you think about the .270WSM as a long-range tack driver caliber?

Thanks.

So I have a 270win, and my two cents is the bullet selection in 270 isn't that great. In hindsight I wish I had a 30-06, 280, etc... just to get either the 7mm or 30 cal bullet selection.

For that reason, I would look at either a 7WSM or 300WSM.

Hi B.

I have a 270 WSM and I love the cartridge. It's a big game cartridge not a varmint cartridge but I assume you already knew that.
This season I shot a 400lb hog from 125 yards, the 150 grain Barnes Triple shock blew his stomach and insides 15 ft from where he was standing.
I've killed trophy class deer from 235 yards and wouldn't hesitate to use it on elk.

If your objective is vaporizing varmints, coyotes, bobcats squirrel rabbits ect) then you have the right caliber. My 270 WSM is the H&S pro hunter "light" and it's a tack driver, @ 6.25 lbs including scope it's hard on the shoulder.
My barrel length is 22 inches.
