270 Win Load Development...Now What?

Here's my last seating depth test. I knew i pulled the shot that i marked. This was at 200 yards. You can see the 0.030 is slightly bigger. Then 0.045 gets smaller and 0.060 the two were on top of each other.

i don't have the final picture of 0.050, 0.060, 0.070

but 0.060 did in fact shoot the smallest.

Yes sir.

And again this is for a HUNTING rifle.

Let's say with the hornady tool you get

3.500

Start with 3.480

Then 3.465

Then 3.450

And so on

If groups are getting smaller continue until they start to open up.

Berger has a write up on where they have two different methods. One is for their vld bullets. Other is for hybrid. The furthest they recommend is 0.120 I believe off the lands.

Most rifles shoot best in that 0.015- 0.020 area.

But the last rifle i did preferred 0.060

When i find that area that looks smallest to me, i verify it. So for the 0.060 of the lands load. I did another three groups. 0.050, 0.060, 0.070 to confirm.
Yes sir, this is for a hunting rifle. I am not a target shooter, although I have one 6.5 Creedmoor. A Ruger American Predator that I upgraded with a Magpul Hunter stock and a Timney trigger. I could use it for hunting, but it is on the heavy side so it is on the thin line between a hunting and bench rifle. Cheapest rifle I have and probably the most accurate. Funny how that happens.

The information provided is invaluable to me. Very much appreciated.

Love me some pictures. I have been doing 5 shot groups and I always tend to pull one. I did have one of my groups that 4 were within less than an inch, but the flier pushed it out to about 2 inches. Had a buddy tell me never discount a shot, but having a single flier to me is an outlier. In statistics, that anomaly would be thrown out of the equation.
