270 powder ?

I have a family member looking for a good powder for his .270. What is a good powder some of you guys are using with a 130 grain bullet.

One of my reloading manuals recommended H 4831SC for the 270 and I bought a can of it to load for the 270 my brother has. We do not have extensive use of it or loading for the 270.

Reloder 16 is what I found works best. Anything in that burn rate is good. H4350 is also good.

I use to use RL-22 with 130 gr bullets in my BBR 270, but lately I tried RL-26 and got very good accuracy and an added 120 ft/sec to boot. The only problem with RL-26 ( and most powders) is to find some. I must also mention that IMR 4831 also worked very good both in terms of accuracy and velocity.

These days it pays to be flexible. Both IMR4350 and IMR4831 work well and they seem to be more available..

In my experience it is a very flexible cartridge, anything between varget and rl26 should work. The best power I’ve seen is h4831sc.

RL26 seems to give more velocity than the others.

RL-26 is a much more dense powder. My 257AI loves the stuff

I have shot many tiny groups (for a hunting rifle) from at least three different 270s, using 130gr bullets and H4831 and H4831SC. The cartridge is pretty darn reliable in that regard. Charge weights of 58 to 60 grains.

Had great results with IMR 4350 in several 270's

We both shoot 270 here. For years it's been IMR4350 and H4831. With a 130 Nosler Partition.

I have loaded for several different 270s over the years. With 130s it seems to be a 50/50 weather they prefer h4831 or imr 4350. Imr 4350, most of the times seems to give a good group right around max velocity, h4831 does as well but there is normally a lower node with h4831. Imr 4831 has been accurate with 150s with mid level charges, I have not tried it with130s but I would be suprised if you couldn’t find a good load with it.

IMR 4831, IMR 4350 and H 4350 were easy to get a tune with 130 to 150gn bullets. Had to use a drop tube with 130 bullets.

Like many have said, IMR 4350 or 4831 - can't lose with these.

The easiest powder I’ve worked with in a .270 Win so far was Magpro. I also use IMR4831 quite often as well, but Magpro was easy as all get out, it could have been the Beger bullets though.
