270-284win

Has anyone heard of or shot one of these? Midway sells brass for it. I've only heard of the 270-338 which pac-nor carries a reamer for. If some one wanted to be stubborn and build something in 270, I suspect this could be a good cartridge if tailored to the 170 berger hybrids. I heard some one has good accuracy success with a 270-308win that I read about on an old forum. Besides decreased BC from stepping to .277 bullet down from .284, the only other downside would be that I suspect you'd need a faster twist out of the 270 then the 7mm which would burn barrels a bit faster. Asking out of curiosity, not so much an interest to build one.

Probably be a decent round. Thinking sticking with the 6.5 or 284 would be a better option but that's why people wildcat projects...curiosity !!!

If you were to ever change cartridges, I'd step down to 6 or 6.5mm. You'd even have plenty of options that would work on your long action with the 270 bolt face.

I figured the 284win was pretty much optimal as it gets really but ya, curiosity. #40Fan, agree there too. I'm going to start going to a local gun club that holds matches here in OR. One guy offered to let me shoot a couple of his to help me decide between the 6 and 6.5 for a target gun if I like shooting there.

I'll say my curiosity has been piqued with the 270wsm. I'm aware the 6.5/7mm ballistics are superior but the 270 Berger bullets do look impressive. One day I'll wind up playing in that caliber somewhere. Very good deer, elk cartridge. I don't think a deer or elk would know the difference when hit with any of them.
