jonbearman

Has anyone had good luck with the sierra 120 grain matchkings in a 260 rem with 1 in 8 twist,26" barrel shilen select match. This is strickly for bench work.

260 rem with lighter bullets?

Jon, I have to be honest when I saw the header I got excited but to my dismay I'm looking for info on ultra light bullets in the 260,like 85gr sierra varminter, powder choices especially, anyways good luck.

260 rem with lighter bullets?

I shoot the 85 or 95VMAX out of a 1-9 and its only a BDL sporter and its a solid .5 gun with them for 5 shot groups at 100yds. It will shoot 3 shot groups around 2"s all day long at 400yds.

I have shot them on occasion in my 1-8 HB but can't recall the group size. They shot well though and I use 123s in my HB and its at or under .5 MOA to a 1000yds if the wind doesn't get me. I also shot the 120BTs in my 1-9 sporter and they were very accurate. Great deer round.

260 rem with lighter bullets?

I have shot the 95 vmax out of my 8twist 28" criterion in 260AI. Also shot some cheap 120hpbt made by PRVI.

Need to pick up some good ones in the 120 range, mostly shoot 140's.

123s shoot fantastic out of my 26" 8 twist 260.
Yep 123 Amax's shoot great out of my 8 twist 26" 2930fps.

dragman and BoilerUP , you guys care to offer up what powder/load you are using with the 123's ?

Thanks
Mike

43.1 grains of IMR4831 with nosler brass and CCI.

123 A-Max, 48.0gr H4831SC (3000fps) or 44.0gr RL-17 (3030fps), WLR, 2.85" COAL.

From my 26" 8 twist Criterion barrel, using RP or Nosler brass, with no pressure signs. The 4831SC is compressed and just about topped out, but RL-17 can go a bit hotter.

The above loads with virgin Lapua brass showed unacceptable pressure.

39.3gr Varget also shoots very well for me with low ES/SD, but is in the 2900fps range.

As always, start low and work up...

BoilerUP and Dragman , Thanks for the info !

I have Lapua Brass , WLR primers and just happen to have a keg of Varget on hand .

Will be shooting a 26" Shilen select match ( 8 twist ) on a Savage 12 action.

Thanks again Mike

Shooting 123 SMK's seated to fit magazine in front of 43.5g R-17, BR2 primers, @ 3058 fps with ES less than 10. Barrel is a 5r rock creek 1:8.5 finished 27".

Spook's got it right. Actually got my 260 barrel and action from him, and he gave me his load. But the 120's and 123's shoot nearly identically out of this gun and my 6.5-284 with a given load.

I have shot a lot of 120 Amax and 108 Lapuas. I have had good luck with R17 using the 120s and Varget with the 108s. The 108s are fantastic bullets. I can really make them scream.

I've had good luck with 120 gr Nosler BT's in my 1:8 twist 260, pushed by 38.0 gr of RL15. It's not as accurate as my 140 grains, but shoots fine for hunting (about 1/2 MOA, usually better).
