.260 Rem. Loads

Hey folks, started shooting my .260 today, and am looking for some good loads. I started with 40 grns 4831sc, and went up to 45 grns. with 142 SMK's .10 into lands. Seemed like I was getting close to pressure at 45..Its a 28" Broughton 1/8 .292 nk. 7/08 Win brass necked down. Velocity at 45 grn was reading 2717 pretty consistently. Am I going in right direction?Should I try 4350 for poops and giggles or what? Thanks again for the help.

That is about all I could wring out of 4831sc but the accuracy was pretty impressive. RL got me close to 3K with a 129SST. Hunting not competition. That is a pretty tight neck. Are you neck turning your brass. Mine is kinda finicky about neck wall thickness.

Also vv550 has yielded a good mix of accuracy and MV. about 2850 from a 26" tube.

i though part of the allure of the .260 was that most .308 powders work well. (vv540,tac,IMR4064,IMr4320, and BLC2). but it seems like the choice powder is 4350 either (h, IMR, or AA). with IMR4831,-ssc, and a random 4007ssc. given that most 6/6.5 projo want to fly 2700 and up i though thte goal was 2700~2800 for 140s and 2800+ for 100-120gr. i think those are the goals. but you and i are both new to the .260 world.
the forum resoundingly is recommending h4350 as a first choice, other 4350, then 4831 ssc.
keep the info coming and withthe help of the forum we'll figure this out.
cheers,
doc

I have tried most of them and keep comming back to H4350, H4831 is almost identical in accuracy for me. RL-17 gave good accuracy (not as good as 4350) with the 144 Lapua but in the 2750 fps range. I could safely drive it faster with RL-17 but accuracy was terrible.

Wow, we keep this info coming we'll have our own .260 info page right here. I found a can of IMR 4350 in a drawer , date 12-98 hope the age didn't hurt it. Doc thanks for the velocity target I will try to keep it in that window,I didnt know what I should expect from it. I am a big fan of the .308, and also the 6.5 pill so it seemed like a good combo. Wish I could get a pic up.

My .260 rem loads are with .243 lapua brass necked up and neck turned to remove the donut. Barrel is a 30" Brux. For the 139 scenar it is H4350 going 2800 .010 off the lands, the powder charge is 43.0 grains. It shot a 1.5 inch group at 600. Vertical for 10 shots was 2.5 inches. My other load is the 140 berger vld .015 into the lands with 43.8 grains of H4350 going at 2900 fps. It shoots just as good as the scenar load. The berger load might be a little hot in your gun, I would work up. This is just what shoots good in my gun.

i have had a lot of luck with rl-22 (which is prob not a first choice for this cal but i have had luck with it elsewhere) with 140 a-maxs and 210ms and found 2 accuracy nodes at about 44 (which was a bit slow) and at 46 which shot lights out for a hunting gun at less than .5 inch 10 shot group. i dont have my data book in front of me so if you play with this please work up in case i am off a bit.

I've played with varget,h-4350,h-4831sc, RL-17, RL-22, N-560, Ramshot hunter and magnum, and N-160

I am using N-560 now but have good luck with all of these.
