26 Nosler... why?

Wrong I'll take my 338 Lapua IMP any day. I have twice the energy and wind bucking and can shoot out to 2000 yards. Have a nice day. Matt

I have everything from a humble 221FB to a phallic .375 SnipeTac, but each round fit for the bullet and task at hand; closer to underbore than to overbore.

The 26 Nosler is just way overbore for the 264 bullets, like taking a 22 and sticking it on a 243 case, no real gain in relation to the case capacity. No worries the 26N will do better than what I have.

I'm not talking about company A making a clone of company B's case just to skip on license fees, I get that. WSM vs WM for short actions, I get that. I don't get just adding half an inch to a case to increase it's capacity beyond the point of having any benefit vs existing, less overbore, cases. Maybe it's just me (bet it is), but I like to stir things up as well ;)

I don't care for it, so far from the couple guys actually shooting it the early factory loaded 129gr LR Accubombs went 3300fps and shot similar to a shotgun the other toasted the barrel in 400 rounds, there are many cases that will do that with way less capacity, their marketing it with the worlds only long range low BC exploding bonded bullet which is all they have I guess. The only bullet that might make it interesting is a 160gr Matrix VLD.

400 rounds ain't much at all. Even with a hunting rifle a person can easily shoot 400 rounds in a year or two with break in, load development, and if they want to put in an adequate amount of long range practice for ethically taking game at extreme distances.

Practice with one barrel and it's toast, then re-barrel and hope it shoots the same? No thanks, not a chance.

400 rounds ! Absolutely out of the question ,I get 3x that out of my 6x284 .

Talk about a complete apples and oranges comparison there bud. How in the world do you think experience with a 6-284 correlates to the 26 Nosler? Different bore, totally different amounts of case capacity, absolutely nothing in common....

95 vmax at what 4400 FPS on prairie dogs? I'M IN!!!!!!!!!!!!

;D ;D ;D

LOL! 4400 fps on a varmint bullet? You'd be scrubbing molten copper out of the bore for days from melted bullets.

I think that fact that discussions whether this new cartridge is a good thing or the next marketing scheme is a good idea is great. The economic health and strength of the manufactures and the shooters is sound when there is innovation (maybe just an increase in catalog size). The argument over whether a new round is great because we could have far worse things to complain about than that. A strong manufacturing base is good for us shooters.

Enough for now,
