25x or 32x rimfire scope?

I have a great shooting .22 Anschuz which currently has a 12x Weaver scope. I want to get a scope with more magnificaion in order to take shots out to 100-200 yards. Will a 25x scope with a 1” tube get it done or do I need to step up to a 32x with a 30mm tube?

Thanks for your time.

24X scopes are very common and will get the job done at any range you are likely to shoot at but, more power is even better. I shoot a fixed 50X scope at 50 yd. matches and love it. Never had any issues with mirage, at least at the places where I shoot.

I mounted a Leupold FX-3 25x on my 1710 for silhouette. Worked great and saved a few ounces versus a variable power scope.

More power is better for spotting your shots at longer ranges -- as long as the quality of the optics is up to it. Where your last shot landed is important to know as soon as possible so you know if you have judged the wind correctly. You might want more than 32X to do this @200 yds.

I use a Weaver 36x FCH on my MPR 64 for 50yd ABRA matches, but never shot 100y with it. Would think it would be sufficient for you needs.

If your question was about having enough elevation for 200 yards, the answer is: depends. Most scopes will not have the travel you need for 22lr at 200 yards. Some of the top end scopes in 30MM might, but your best bet is a 20MOA scope rail as explained here: Warne 20MOA explained

more is better. If there are no other constraints get a variable to 60x

on the other hand there is no NEED to change the 12x to shoot at 200

In the summer my gun club shoots 50 yard fun matches on Wednesday afternoons, we usually start at 7pm. Normally I shoot 24X but picked up a Weaver T36 for a decent price to try. I shot one match with it. it was great until the light started to fade but on the last three or four bulls I couldn't see well and just tried to center them up in the scope and hoped for the best. Never had that issue with 24X.

A more expensive scope may be better and if we were shooting in good light the Weaver would be fine, but it is something to consider.

If you trying to resolve 1" dots at 200 you can probably use more than a 25X but a Quality 25X (read pricey) with good lenses will do the job well. A 30 mm tube is more flexible if you are cranking in the elevation changes. I would read the link that PigButtons posted for sure....

I replaced a 8-32 Sightron with a 45 Sightron on my rimfire bench gun.

im still not sure but I’m leaning toward the 32x, less stuff going on for old eyes

You can "take shots" out to 200 yds with a 12x scope. What are you trying to hit at 200 yds ? Steel plates? Paper? Varmints? More isn't always better. When you magnify the target you also magnify mirage which becomes more problematic the further away the target is. If you could explain what you want to accomplish it might help get you the information you need.

^ This pretty much sums up what I was going to post. I see people posting that more is better but I don't necessarily agree. I depends on the scope and what you're doing with it. I have several 6-24x scopes and haven't ever felt I need more magnification even when shooting longer distances. I also do a lot of offhand and position shooting along with benchrest. I'd prefer a clear image and more field of view over extra magnification

I was using a 8-32 power Sightron SIII shooting a .204 caliber Ruger. I could see my holes at 200 yards.
If the mirage kicked up, I would have to wait till it cleared to see them. Shooting on White Paper with a 1" red sighting dot. Or white paper with black scoring rings.

I think a used Weaver T36 is a good scope and a great value. I have an old one that I shoot on my Anschutz 1413 at both 50 ft. and 50 yds. For what you can buy used ones for ($350 +/-) unless you are a truly high-level competitor, I doubt you would be disappointed.
