Scope Rings for Anschutz

What are you using for scope rings to mount a Leupold to an Anschutz? I want to mount my Leupold FX3 25X directly to the dove tail on my 2013 action. Looking to keep the scope low and do not want to use a mounting rail. The tricky part is to get the scope far enough forward for proper eye relief and not have the rear ring interfere with the loading port. Thanks.

I use an Anschutz 2013 in smallbore prone matches, and I use a one inch Leupold 24X Benchrest scope for the any sight matches. I attach my scope with Anschutz rings. They are designed to fit the 11mm Anschutz rail. I have never had a problem with these rings. championshooters.com sells them for $12.00.

Mark, I use the adjustable aluminum Anschutz stock. I am also 6'3" and don't have any problems with eye relief. If you are using the same stock as me, you could adjust the rear of the stock out more and move your forward hand back. My rifle is not accessible but as I recall, I also have the rings as forward as much as possible and the scope as far forward in the rings.

300meter,

Like another poster above, I was not able to adjust the stock properly and get enough eye relief with my Leupold 6.5-20X scope on the Ans. 2013 without a scope rail. The scope rail sold by Champion Shooters works well to get the scope far enough forward. You can remove and replace the scope/rail assembly and your zero will still be the same:

When the scope is mounted too far back, you end up compensating by adjusting the butt plate all the way back and the fore-end hand stop back. The problem is that your shooting hand is too far back and is not comfortable for prone matches. Also, I found that I couldn't load ammo with the stock still in my shoulder - my right hand wouldn't reach the loading port comfortably. The solution was to move the scope forward using the rail, then moving the butt plate and hand stop forward to better positions. After I did this, my position was much more comfortable and my scores improved.

A well-known highpower shooter, German Salazar, wrote an excellent tutorial on adjusting the "tubegun" stock. This applies equally well to adjustable smallbore rifles. First you adjust the grip to buttplate distance, then everything else falls in place after that. You adjust your sight or scope placement only after the buttplate is set. If you are limited in your rear sight (or scope) placement, other problems will show up. Here is a link to German's article:

Hope this helps.

300meter,

I have Kelbly's benchrest rings on both my Annies. They are masterpieces of precision machining. Tops and bottoms are indexed and are marked accordingly ---- absolutly no need for laping. On my 2013BR, both ring sets are double screw and on my 17HMR 64 MPR I have one double and one single. Kelbly's modifies their std. rings to precisely fit the 11mm Annie receiver dovetail. Just call and tell them what you need. They are very accommodating and truly nice people to deal with.
