257 AI

Thinking about building an encore in 257ai, and just wondering how long you think the barrel would last.Just a general idea i understand there are many variable.
Thanks for any info

Jeffro,
Just seen your post, so heres my answer. Have had a 257AI for 5 yrs. and nearly 900 rnds. down the tube! Still shoots
3/4 in. 3 shot groups. This is a hunting rifle, untrued action
sporter barrel. Never shot anything but deer with it.

Wayne,

I would go at least 24" with 26 being better if you dont mind the length go to 28to30" as with out a bolt action in the middle you will gain velocity without having a rifle that is very long

Jeffro,
Did a little checking on my 257AI,when I first put this rifle together 87gr. bergers would touch the rifling. Yesterday I started checking, your question made me wonder, well I couldn't reach reach the rifling with a 120nosler partition seated 1/8 inch into neck!! Lots of erosion, velocity is lower by 150-200 fps.
When I first worked with this rifle,I settled on ww760 powder, high velocity, very good accuacy, case life short, maybe this contrbuted to the short barrel life.
Shot this rifle at 200 meters 2days ago,1 1/2 to 2inch groups were the norm.
Hope this helps
Wayne,
