Isn’t it always about splitting hairs? 25 cal is only 0.007” smaller than 6.5/.264.I plan on building a 25 cal rifle soon and was planning on the 25x47 but then stumbled upon a used 250 savage Ackley that I might purchase instead. Anyone have opinions on these? Is. there a big performance difference or just splitting hairs?
It will be a new buildWhat type of shooting are you planning for it?
The AI may have a 1:10 twist barrel. Limiting you to 120gr lead core bullets.
About 90gr monos.
Sure, you could rebarrel, but another added cost.
I have a 6.5x47. Just have the bug for that .25, you knowIsn’t it always about splitting hairs? 25 cal is only 0.007” smaller than 6.5/.264.
I’d buy the AI and try that if I had to have a quarter bore. If I’m buying x47 brass, just build a 6.5x47.
Good to know. I haven’t even started to look for it. I have a little x 47 lapua brass. Maybe that’s my answer..250 Savage brass is almost non-existent.
Necking brass up or down calibers seems to be generally considered less than ideal for uniformity, therefor accuracy. I almost don’t consider the 0.007” change from 6.5x47L to be outside of the realm of general sizing, especially considering that you only do it once...True…so which is best? What’s more speaking? I’m open to building either one.
So a bushing .308 die is all you need to load? Looks like it should be a nice cartridge
You don't need 250 Savage brass! You're much better off starting with 22-250 which is ubiquitous and available as premium e.g. Lapua. I fireform it "bulletless" but if you must use bullets to fireform, just run a good expander through the necks first..250 Savage brass is almost non-existent.
A lot of 250 AIs have 30-deg or 35-deg shoulders. RCBS promoted the 30-deg version. The Ackley case has a 40 degree shoulder angle
