N570 looks good in this cartridge as well. 3250 out of a 24" barrel. This was 600yds.View attachment 1622165

That's pretty darn impressive for a case this size and a 24in barrel but N570 is one of those powders that never seems to disappoint especially when it comes to velocity.

Curious, do you have the OAL pretty stretched out with those 133's to get that much 570 in there and or are you having to use a drop tube to help get it all in there? Due to the kernel size N570 can be one of the least pleasant powders to work with but if you can get enough in the case it generally produces the best velocities without going crazy on pressure.

With the 64.5gr load gaining little to no velocity over the 64gr load would you assume that's an indication 64gr is about the best you're going to get out of it with that powder/bullet/primer combo?

Yes you need a long drop tube or electric tooth brush to vibrate it in there. 62.5-63 is probably where its going to run at accuracy wise, which is about 3250 or so. He got 64.5 in there so 62.5 is not too bad. My reamer is throated like most of my reamers. Its not setup to fit a short action. Mid or long. But if a guy wanted to run it in a short he could just jump it more.

Would it work in SA that's cut to use a 3.100 Baney mag box? I was originally going to go this route with my 25 SAUM build but then switched to UM's det mag setup and XL mags because they allow up to a 3.150 OAL in the BAT Igniter action I'm using.

The SAUM has a little more capacity then the necked down 6.5 PRC case but I'm using a 22in Bartlein so that'll slow it down a bit but if I can get 3250 with the mid 134 ELD-M like you are with the 25PRC I'll be a happy camper.

Have you ever given any thought to building a 25 Western using ADG 6.8 Western brass? It would basically be like a 25 RSAUM Improved except it'd just be a straight neck down from the parent case and would be slightly shorter. Your 25 PRC kind of seems to be one of those Goldilocks cartridges though so maybe you haven't.

Yes it should work in a Bainey. Im personally not a huge fan of trying to cram things into short actions. Just creates problems that go away in a mid or long. I speced out a 25 western for customer and chambered it recently. He ended up around 3150 with h1000 in a 20" barrel. The prc is the only one with lapua brass though

But I'm still getting over 3100 fps with 60 grains of 4831SC and great a accuracy. I'm so sn love with this cartridge I've done a 6 PRC, 7 PRCW, and a 338 PRC. It's all Alex Wheelers fault.

I would love to hear more about that 338 PRC. Elk rifle? What is it set up to shoot? I have had the thought to put one together with 300gn Bergers; kind of like a bigger “308” type setup to see how it did at 1000yd BR.

I built one in a SA. It works fine. Cycles great. It will eject a loaded round. You lose some case capacity/speed. But it will still send a 138 A-tip at 3100fps. That barrel has 1000 rounds on it and still shoots great. I think it's almost done though since it's slowing down.

It is an elk rifle. Set up to shoot a 225grn Barnes or 250grn Berger. Still waiting on the barrel. I'll let you know some numbers once I have it. Should be slightly better than a 338 RCM.

Thank you! I know and understand that a short action might not be the best idea, but I have a rifle that needs a new barrel and it's a Rem 700 short action - magnum bolt. This cartridge has piqued my interest so it's probably going to be my next build. The rifle is a single shot, so COAL isn't my main concern but I was curious if it would eject or if I'd have to pull the bolt with a loaded round.

RL26 and 131 BJs is where I started with my 25-284. Accuracy is best around 3K but there's another accuracy node around 3198 with 55.0 grains of powder(.5"). It's a 24" barrel and I'm tickled to see this velocity and no pressure signs I can see. Bolt lift and brass looks great. I won't run those speeds but rather the 3000 fps 95% of the time. May look to them on my next pronghorn hunt and do some more load data. For most hunts, I like the 3K fps number with most bullets

Yes I was shocked. Thought the chronograph was wrong. Regretted not getting a 26" barrel thinking I'd have issues getting 3000 fps. Now I wish I'd have bought a 22" barrel.

Im Going to try a 25-7PRC out of a 24”. Well see what happens
