25-06 load info help

I really enjoy my 25-06 Remington rifle, and cartridge, for all the things they bring together. Pretty flat trajectory, not too much recoil, and good terminal effects, at least on the whitetil deer and feral hogs I've taken.

I picked up some IMR 8133 to try in 25-06 in 2021, the potential suggested by Hodgdon's published reloading data for this cartridge with 117 & 120 grain projectiles definitely has my attention!

With my SAAMI 25-06 chambers, I can not get enough 8133 in the case to get a 115 partition up to speed & voltage. Bullet base is well below neck/shoulder junction. YMMV

Same problem with my S&W 1500. Began a series of tests with the 117 Sierra and 8133 and just ended up with to much of a compressed load for my liking.

Thanks for sharing that experience with IMR 8133. My 25-06 Remington rifle is an Interarms Mark X (Zastava), perhaps my chamber will have extra throat as is common with the reputation for 7X64mm Brenneke and 7X57mm Mauser rifles manufactured in Europe. I haven't even started measuring anything yet, there's other things on my plate between now and the end of this year that have priority. I'll enjoy experimenting in 2021 regardless of the final outcome. I think there are plenty of options available for me to try as long as I'm not insisting on finding Retumbo.

I've been using Federal factory 25-06 Remington ammunition thus far with no complaints on performance whether blue box Power Shock 117 grain JSP, Premium Vital Shock 110 grain Accubond, or Fusion 120 grain.

Thanks to everyone on all the Great info on the 25-06 loads. I found 3 boxes of the Sierra 117gr Pro Hunter flat base and have them on the way, I have 2 boxes of Nosler 120gr Partition and 1 box of Nosler 120gr solid base, I only have about 1/2 pound of IMR 4350 left, and I haven't been able to find anymore, I was able to find a couple pounds of H4831 at a local gun shop, I was planning on staying with the IMR 4350 but I saw a lot of you use or have used the H4831 with Great results, so I am thinking about giving it a try and see how my Rem 700 CDL likes it.
Merry Christmas to All,
Brent

If you need a backup powder I've been running RL19 in mine with nosler ballistic tips and it destroys deer and I have many 3 shot groups under 0.2" at 100 yards. Annoyingly accurate for a 15 year old savage rifle with boyd's stock.

I shoot a 25-06 Rem 700 with a 26" Krieger sendero contour. My load for 115gr Nosler ballistic tips is 48.6gr IMR-4350, Fed 210 primers in a remington case. It makes deer and pigs dead. This is the group I shot fouling the barrel for hunting season this year.

I've was shooting a 25-06 before Remington made it 'legitimate' it's a pre-war Mod, 70. I've shot deer, antelope and sage rats to prairie dogs. Nosler Partition and 4831sc for the big stuff, Sierra of varying weights for the sage rats and prairie dogs. It's a caliber that just works good. A little light for Cape Buffalo, but just fine for sage rats to elk.

I have shot an old Browning A-bolt for many years in 25-06. What a great caliber! I have used the 117 Hornady SST, quite a bit and taken a truck load of deer, hogs, coyotes, and bobcats with that bullet and reloder 22. The A-bolt throat is about a mile long so in this rifle I can really push the speed up! The 110 accubond is great also, and the light TTSX is just a laser and just knocks the stuffings out of deer. Also, just realize when it gets really cold RL22 will lose some velocity. IMR4350 works great also!

Sierra’s app shows IMR 4350 will drive a 117 gr SBT from around 2600 fps to just over 2900 fps. Hodgdon web site shows a generic 120 gr soft point bullet from 2831 fps with 48.0 grains IMR4350, up to 3049 fps using 52.0 gr (compressed). I think the answer to your question is clearly yes, you can find a load that will work with IMR 4350 and a 120 grain bullet. Maybe not all 120 grainers, but clearly some will work well.
