Never used mine on elk, but shot many deer and coyotes with either IMR 4350 or H 4831 powder. I shot bullets in the 110 to 120 gr. range. James

For many years I used a 7 rem mag for blacktail deer / elk and it performed nicely for each. About 10 years ago I bought a 25 06 for deer and soon after a 338 win mag for elk. Really for no other reason than wanting more guns
. I have to say the 25 06 with 110gr to 120gr projectile kills deer as good or better than that 7mag did with a 175gr. My load of choice the last three seasons has been 115 berger with H4831. Have killed two deer with that combo, both dropped in there tracks.
I have no doubt the 25 with a 120gr Partition / Barnes or something similar would kill elk but I like the bigger calibers for elk, especially where I hunt. We need to take advantage of the opportunities we get and the opportunities that present themselves aren't always that perfect shot.
