Would be nearly identical case capacity as a 25 SAUM but on a long action standard bolt face action.
These new heavies for the 25 cals are pretty long bullets so a person would want to use an action that allowed a OAL of 3.400 or longer which would rule out a few factory actions.
I don't think 3100 with the Berger 133's from a 24-25in barrel and powders like N570, RL33 and even Retumbo would be all that difficult and when you run the numbers through a ballistic calculator on a Berger 133/135 or Hornady 134 it's pretty impressive, especially at distance, and I think you're right it would make for a nice all around hammer with some pretty good legs to it and not a lot of recoil. I'm not doing a 25-06AI but what will pretty much be its evil short action magnum bolt face ballistic twin.![]()
sort of related.... I read that military specs H1000 for some rounds. Explains hard to get status.Just an idea.
Anyone dove down this rabbit hole? 24.5-25" threaded. RL26, H1000, maybe even Retumbo?
Feel like it would be a non-magnum all around hammer.
Whitetail, Aoudad, Mule Deer, Antelope, Axis, swine.
pls elaborate on your 1k yard shooting w 25 cal bullets. The 25 caliber Bergers and the new Hornady bullets have been performing very well for me.
`In a 26" 25 creed with R17 I am seeing 2970 FPS, with a 100 yard zero 6.6 Mils is my correction at 1K yards. Accuracy has been excellent.
In a 25-06 with a long throat and close to 60gr powder capacity 3150FPS should be doable.
