25-06 AI 133 Bergers

Just an idea.

Anyone dove down this rabbit hole? 24.5-25" threaded. RL26, H1000, maybe even Retumbo?

Feel like it would be a non-magnum all around hammer.

Whitetail, Aoudad, Mule Deer, Antelope, Axis, swine.

Would be nearly identical case capacity as a 25 SAUM but on a long action standard bolt face action.

These new heavies for the 25 cals are pretty long bullets so a person would want to use an action that allowed a OAL of 3.400 or longer which would rule out a few factory actions.

I don't think 3100 with the Berger 133's from a 24-25in barrel and powders like N570, RL33 and even Retumbo would be all that difficult and when you run the numbers through a ballistic calculator on a Berger 133/135 or Hornady 134 it's pretty impressive, especially at distance, and I think you're right it would make for a nice all around hammer with some pretty good legs to it and not a lot of recoil. I'm not doing a 25-06AI but what will pretty much be its evil short action magnum bolt face ballistic twin. :)

I have a buddy that is wanting to do a SAUM as well, for hunting, and another that already has one. His is a comp gun though.

West Texas Ordnance wildcatted the 7PRC. 25-7PRC and it looks pretty sweet in a medium action. But its all around that 3100-3200 with the 133's. I figured a 25-06AI would be a little different and I've always liked a 25-06 anyway.

Next on the list is a 6X47 for 108 Elite Hunters but I might start buying a component here and there for the 06AI.

I briefly considered a 25-7PRC, well, sorta. I considered doing a 25-7mm Blaser which is nearly an identical case to the new 7PRC because I already have a 7mm Blaser mag and lots of brass. A 25-7mm PRC or 25-7mm Blaser mag would be a ballistic twin to the 257 Weatherby mag.

Another 25 cal that I think would be good and seems to be gaining quite a bit of popularity is necking down the 6.5 PRC and making a 25-6.5 PRC which is a near ballistic twin to the 25-284 except the 25-6.5 PRC works in a short action.

If barrel life is a concern the less overbore 25's like a 25 Creedmoor or 25x47 would be a good choice. For PRS shooting either one of those shooting the high BC 130's would probably make for a pretty nice setup.

I've been pestering Hornady about making something like a 140gr A-Tip with a BC around .700 for the 25 caliber folks but they told me not to hold my breathe. lol

sort of related.... I read that military specs H1000 for some rounds. Explains hard to get status.

The 25 caliber Bergers and the new Hornady bullets have been performing very well for me.
`In a 26" 25 creed with R17 I am seeing 2970 FPS, with a 100 yard zero 6.6 Mils is my correction at 1K yards. Accuracy has been excellent.

In a 25-06 with a long throat and close to 60gr powder capacity 3150FPS should be doable.
