243 win. powder choices

Due to shortages of IMR brand powders..I took a flyer & ordered 8 lbs of Accurate or Alliant brand 4064 powder..I was thinking what the hey it's available..3 months later I get a nice e-mail from midway explaining the B/O situation ...If & when that stuff ever gets here...What can I expect when using that powder in my 243 win with Berger 88 grain flat base hollow point match bullets? ...Thanks in advance, mike in Ct

IMR 4350 is on my backorder list..Same deal, pay for the keg & wait..This component shortage really stinks...If it keeps up we will be using whatever we can get...mike in ct

I have had the best accuracy with IMR 4064. H380 is good and being a ball powder burns cooler and extends barrel life. I would advise using H380 and Molly bullets. You will get twice the barrel life and good accuracy. 8)

H-414 GOOD STUFF FOR THOSE WT BULLETS
Yup same for w760 if you can get either, same load goes for both of those powders also.
I use it for 58-95g bullets in my .243.
IMR4320, 4064/R19/Blc2/varget/ hodgdon 100v all work as well.

The two best powders that have worked for me are first, IMR 4350 and then IMR 4064. While I've never used the Alliant 4064 I understand it's similar to IMR 4064 so I would expect good results with it especially with lighter weight bullets.

Have had nothing but good results with IMR 4064. i have gotten 6 inch groups at 1k with this powder. 1-12 with 26" barrel. stock chamber with rem. action.

H414 & H380 are really good powders but bear in mind that they need magnum primers to ignite properly.

I shoot H380 in most of my prairie dog guns 243, 220 Swift, 22/250, and 260 all with Molly coated bullets and all shoot great, using regular large rifle primers. They all will hold 1" at 300 yds.

Haven't tried N160 but got good accuracy with N140 and
85 Sierras. N140 was easy to get from Midsouth a couple
of months ago. I'm afraid it might hasten throat burn though???

4350.

I used to shoot 44.5 grains of 4350 behind the Sierra 85 grain HPBT. It was the world's most versatile load.

It would turn varmints inside out and kill deer like nobody's business. On deer, you *had* to stay out of the shoulder...it would tear up a fearsome amount of meat. As long as you did a neck or double lung, there was nothing better. Nothing.

Why do you have to pay and then wait?? I usually dont do business w/ those kind. I dont mind waiting but not when they have my $$$.

My 243 load for 80 gr Corelokts is RL 15--36 grains-I expect they are about 2950 fps.

Im 3/3--2 deer and a coyote at my sons 40.

I still like the 4350's in my hunting rig with 95g tips! H1000 and Retumbo work good with my other gun and heavier bullets along with rl25.

i load developed some reloader 17 that i found on the shelf at a local gun shop....bottle had duston it and i was bored so i bought it at $20.00 and figured what the heck....my load turned out to be one of the best yet for my Rem 700 S/A ADL....

Nosler BT 80grn
RL 17 45.0 grn
Winch Brass
Winch WRL primer

held sub MOA at 100 and 200 havent shot it out past 200 yet but will be soon enough...

I've used IMR4320 w/ the 85 gr HPBT bullets w/ decent groups in a sporter rifle, but want to try H4350 w/ 85 and 100 grainers. My barrel is factory w/ 10" twist.

I use H380 in my Bullberry Encore 24" barrel at 4275fps with 55gr and 1-12 twist Very accurate and smoking fast. With heavier bullets not sure how it would do.
