243 Small Rifle Primer

So Ive done several seaarches to find info on 243 SRP and have found nothing. I am building a 243AI and using Peterson SRP brass.
I will be pushin Tubbs DTACS and using my last 8 lbs of Reloader 23
Do I need a Magnum SRP ?? or are they just for low volumn loads ? I have 4 different primers and I am curious what other shooters have found using a small rifle primer igniting about 46 grains.

Thanks brothers

The CCI 450M primer showed better E S & S Ds than the BR2s when I was shooting the 243AI with Peterson SRP brass. Had same results with the 260AI as well. Both were using H-4350 powder at mid-40 grains of powder.

There is a great deal of experience around with SRP brass and a cartridge with that capacity - its parent 308 Win. Nine out of ten FTR competitors with 308 rifles use SRP brass for the combination of reduced MV spreads and the very considerable increase in case strength and longevity. This discipline sees heavy bullets, heavy loads, and some very high pressures. When I say SRP cases that's mostly the makes with the smaller (1.5mm compared to the standard 2mm) flash-hole diameter too. That includes your Peterson 243 SRP cases. (Make sure you have a smaller diameter decapping pin that fits.)

There are two issues to be aware of. SR primers vary in both cup thickness and very much so, strength. I'm assuming that with 243AI you intend to run full pressures, so you need the stronger versions. There is a useful summary here on Post #2 which although dealing with compatibility with ARs also applies to high-pressure bolt gun applications.

The other issue is the powders you might use in 243AI, ie slow burning 'magnum' types including Re23. I have seen a post on this forum in which a long-range match 243 competitor said that his trying SRP brass failed through inadequate ignition for his favourite powder, Hodgdon H1000. The only way you'll likely know if Re23 is compatible is through range testing and what the chronograph tells you. In 308 SRP Lapua 'Palma' I've found that some St. Marks (Hodgdon brand) ball-type grades don't work - hangfires and misfires. If you shoot in very cold conditions, this can cause problems too with SRPs and 40-odd grain charges.
