I have a friend that is wanting to build one 22 243 , I think he has a 1-10 twist 26'' Brux barrel that will be shooting 60 gr V Max used for coyote hunting . He has a chassis so it will have magazine for OAL must fit . Any prints on reamer or specs would be nice or input . Thanks Jason

Jason, another fwiw input. I have a 22-243 Imp with a 30* shoulder. It has a shorter neck than the Middlested version, with a little more capacity. I have a 30" Kreiger barrel 7.7 twist. Drives the 77 gr Sierra MK or the Hornady 75 gr ELD over 3600 fps. Extremely accurate rd (low to mid 1's for three shot groups) for long range PD's beyond 800 yds. Sorry I don't have a reamer print...but there is about four versions of this wildcat that I know....mine, a 40* shoulder version, the Middlested, and the standard 22-243 just necked down. Not much on barrel life...but if that is not a problem for your friend...it is a great rd. Comparsion picture to my iddy bitty 20 Mink and the 22-243 Imp...LOL! 7315br

I have a 224 Clark , 22-6 mm Improved , 220 swift , 6 mm Ackley so I am not afraid of short barrel life ! I think that that is a nice looking cartridge for sure ! I was surprised on how my 22 6 imp shoots at that velocity I shoot 69 TMK @ or close to 3900 and I will bet yours does the same !! So what should he get and I think he got 1-8 instead of 1-10 .

I have a 224 Terminator from Defensive Edge Rifles, it's their version of the 22-243 Imp. I'm shooting 80gr ELD-M 3650 fps from a 28in Krieger 8tw barrel. One of the things I really like is Defensive Edge sells Lapua 224 Terminator brass that is already fire formed and ready to go.

Jason, I've have a extra barrel for mine that is a 8-twist. It shoots the 77 gr Sierra MK's very well, but the 75 gr Hornady ELD Match not particulaly well. Don't know why? I think any of the cartridges you or B23 suggested would work fine. I do think just the 22-243 necked down version is okay also. I had one of those that shot great! Easy case to make. A friend of mine is convinced the 22-243 necked down is the way to go. He has killed a PD over 1400 yds with his...hard to argue with that...LOL! Lonnie Hummel from Hornady (retired) always was a fan of the 22-6mm Imp. I toyed around with building one, but never did. That should be the "Bees Knees"! Let us know which way your friend goes. 7315br

IMO, the 243 case gains so little, when improved, it's not worth the trouble and if I couldn't buy already fire formed brass from my gunsmith for my 224 Terminator, I would have gone with a straight 22-243.

My dad has a 22-6mm and shoots the 75gr Bergers. The downside to going with any wildcat based off the Rem 6mm case, available brass is mediocre at best and availability is very hit or miss.

Also, when using those long heavy for caliber bullets in a 22-6mm or anything off the Rem 6mm case, you really need to use a long action or single feed them in a short action. When you seat the bullets deep enough to use it as a repeater, you're better off going with a 22-243 or one of the many "improved" variants and taking advantage of being able to use Lapua 243 brass.

I love my 22-243, don't ever plan to be without a fast twist .22. I honestly would look at the 22 creedmoor. Factory, quality brass from Peterson and will run with a 22-243.

I talked to my friend today and he is going with 22-243 Middlestead , now where to get him a reamer ? any thoughts ?

I have a 9twist middlestead, runs 75gr vld @ 3400 and very hard on whitetail. If I did it over I'd go at least an 8 twist, but a 7.5 twist would be better
