Thought I saw a post on this, but can't find it, so will ask your opinions. Picked up a 2nd year production Ruger #1 in 243. Looking for a bullet for deer hunting, 300 yards max. range. I have some Sierra 85 BTHP, Sierra 90 tipped gameking and some 95 Nosler BT's. Recomendations please. Whitetail down in OK.

Thanks

Great luck with the 9 TGK, shot plenty of mule deer, whitetail and antelope.......as well as too many coyotes to count

Ruger m77 mkii with a Schilen barrel. My brother and I have shot a ton of deer with that rifle and sierra 85gr BTHP #1530’s. I have never shot any past 200 with them. I have shot steel out to 650 with them.

Muzzle velocity of 3082 FPS and a10 mph crosswind for information.

I have some Remington 80s that I tried in three 6s their reputation for detonation is pretty well founded. Shot a yote, DRT, but the bullet did not exit. You definitely need a heavier jacket and heavier bullet. For deer, I would try to get those 95s to work. The Nosler bullets have a tough jacket

All the bullets mentioned above will do well on deer. I would add the Nosler 90 gr. Accu-Bond is bad to the bone on deer as well.

Thisa may be the one.

Most all the bullets listed will do the job - some better than others on average. The heavier premium bullets (bonded, lead free, etc.) will give you an edge if you need to take a bone shot to bring the animal down without it running off (crossing fences or down into the steep ravine of hell). A lot of the heavier, older design bullets are still great - but some are not known for accuracy. The difference between premium bullets and "run of the mill" bullets runs around $20.00 per hundred (+/-). Cheap insurance in my mind.
