243 AI??

I am in the process of building a 243 Ackley Improved,

Spec's

Remington 700 SA

Brux 8 twist #5 contour barrel at 26 inches.

My question is what kind of performances can i expect as far as accuracy and speed??
I have a good idea from what i have read, but was wanting to hear from people shooting it.

If you some of you guys that have one would chime in with your experience shooting 87grs to 105gr bullets. I will be using it for some steel shooting and maybe some deer hunting.

Any info would be great!!

Thanks T 700

I got a pac-nor 8tw 243ai and I love it.Still ff and working on loads but so far I am very happy with it.I haven't ran any through my chrno. yet but will soon. And yes do try the 105 a-maxs.Will post more results when I get them

Ok, But I have enough 105 VLD's to do me for now!

Let me know when check the speed.

Thanks T 700

I run the 105 gr. A-Max in Lapua cases full of H4831 and ignited by BR-2's. 3200 fps and change from a 28" 8tw tube. I have a 14tw that pushes the 70 gr. Blitzkings to 3930 fps with Varget. Shot a Buck at 438 yards with the A-Max from a 26" 8tw tube with H4831 but haven't chrono'ed this barrel. It ran perhaps 100 yards but there was no problems knowing it was hit or following the blood trail. Shot was forward in the shoulder but did catch/graze the heart.

MrMjestic,

Thanks for the info, I am guessing my longest shot will be around 300yds if that. Not a lot of long shots in the east where I hunt.

i run 107s through a 28 inch 1-8 twist brux with a case full of re 22 im getting 32hundred and some change and it keeps 5 of them under a dime when i do my job

Ok that is good to hear. I was hoping to be around 3,200fps with a 105gr berger.

I bet this thing will wiz a 87gr bullets. Can't wait to start shooting her!!!

Thanks T 700

I'm around 3350 fps with Berger 87 g hunting bullets using H414. Nice load and holds sub-MOA at least to 400 yards. Have not taken it farther than that. Last deer was a bedded-down head shot at 364 yards. Had to take the head shot as that's all we could see of the bugger.

I HAVE 2 243 ACKLEYS ONE IS A 12 TWIST I ONLY SHOOT 70GR MK WITH IT, THE OTHER ONE I SHOOT 87GR BERGERS W/H4350 AT 3350-3400 AND WITH THE 105 BERGERS W/H-1000 AT 3200FPS 8 TWIST SELECT MATCH SHILEN 210M PRIMERS

My .243 AI is a bit enigmatic but it shoots well. It's a 9-twist hart but will shoot 105 - 107 grain bullets quite well (around an inch at 300 yards) and I'm not really pushing them that hard, around 3075 fps with RE22. One would think the twist is too slow but it apparently it's Ok in this case. Rifle is a pretty standard varmint weight remington.

I have heard that a 9 twist will work some times. Think I will stay with an 8 twist just to be safe.
