243 Ackley

I had great luck with N-160 in Lapua brass with moly'd 87 V-Max in a 1-10 Broughton barreled rifle giving me 3620 fps & good accuracy. This was a balls to the wall load & the primer pockets started giving up after about 5 loadings, but it sure did shoot well. I would think you could do better than 3500 very safely with 85 grain +/- bullets.

I cringe every time I see a post looking for the holy grail load. All barrels are different period. Due the proper load workup, spend the time and mark the results! Experment, and live a little. I am not trying to offend but sometimes loads do not group well in some barrels with higher velocity. Perhaps a different powder would group better at higher vel, or a different primer. There is no majic load that is dominant in any caliber in my book. Just my thoughts?

Valar,
I've been reloading since 1974. I load for more than 30 calibers in several dozen firearms. I'm not looking for the holy grail. I am looking for a load that will shoot the tightest possible groups with the bullet I choose. I will find it within the many powders I'm testing. Done it dozens of times. I am doing the proper load workups. I am experimenting with a wildcat. I came here and asked some questions of the people who have already experimented with the 243 Ackley and they have been a big help and I appreciate their support. There is a magic load for every rifle. Every bolt action rifle I own will shoot less than 1/2" groups at 100 yds with several producing one hole groups because I found that magic load. This particular rifle has won several trophies and plaques as a 243 Win. Thank you for your opinion. Hopefully next time you can tell me something I don't already know about.

And there are loads, not "majic" (sic) perhaps, that are reliably accurate in a variety of rifles. 30 grains Varget under a Sierra 107 with a Fed 205M in 6BR, 40 grains IMR 4064 under a Sierra 168 Matchking with a Fed 210M in .308, etc. Proven combinations will often produce excellent results, sometimes requiring a little tweaking.

I herebye stand corrected! My apologies sir. I am not used to forums with this caliber of shooting specialties! Sincerley Me!
