6CM LOADING NOTES FOR REFERENCE ONLY

Reamer used was the 6CM LR a version of a 243 Winchester improved. Action: BAT single shot model B.
Winchester 243 Brass was prepped and sorted into lots by weights. Neck diameter new and resized is 0.269”, loaded is 0.271” and fired is 0.273”. Sierra 115-grain bullets touch the lands with an OAL of 2.918”. Max. case length = 2.045”, TRIM to = 2.035”. Head Space measurements --- The rifle chamber HS with the 6CM gauge is under +0.002”. I can close the bolt with a +0.006 243 gauge. The new 243 cases have an HS of about –0.002”, meaning the HS is about 0.008” when fire forming with new win brass.

The 48 grains load produced the smallest vert groups.,one group was 0.059” vertical) gusting winds opened the horz part of the groups.

You'll want a 7.5 twist barrel. Check out the 6CM or the 6SuperX threads on the forum. These are reputed to give better barrel life than a 243Win.

Wow Fellas :) thats quick thanks for all the info Jerry.

I should of said the reason for a 243 was plenty of brass about and not much case forming needed, i Will keep looking. thanks again fellas for the input.

I shoot the 115gr Dtac in a .243Ai with good results.

My loads are for the bare 115's 45.5gr Re-22 = 3120 fps Thats my go to load for that bullet. all use CCI Br2 primers.

with the 115 Dtac BN coated I use 46gr Re-22 = 3065 fps or 45.5gr Vit N-165. both have the same velo. and shoot very well.

Those loads should probobly be started 5% less!! My rifle seems to like a little extra powder.

Hopefully Friday Ill be at the 600yd range and will get to test the rifle. Shooting off a bi pod. So far any of the listed loads have shot a best of about 1.2' at 275 yards.

newboy,

I'm going to a 6CM, I have a ton of .243 brass and plan to shoot the 115 also. I think you should do the research on it also, it helped me decide.

Man go to the HOME Page click on the 243/243ai link at the top/side and do what George Gardner does. When he shot the '06 snipers hide match he won the '1000yd' part of the match running a striaght .243win with 115 dtacs...he beat out David Tubb with his 6XC and Terry Cross with his .260ai. In my opinion you don't need any more than that. Like it says in the article no fire forming, no donaughts, reliable feeding and 'the reason I am building a .243' brass is everywhere. Run Lapua, run Winchester my local stores have piles of it. My rifle will be a tactile rifle that I will use in F-class..Surgeon action, Accuracy International chassis system, Bartlein barrel, US Optics...mmmmmm Giggidy!!!

I have had good success with straight .243/Lilja 7' twist barrel/ 47.5 gr. Reloader 25 / Fed. GM210M primers/bare DTACs/Winchester brass. Around 2980 fps with low pressure and 3/4 moa @ 600 yds.. Lot's of Xs @ 1000 with scope or irons. Cases still going after 12 loadings.

Wot barrel lenth do you think would be best, this build will be an F Class gun so weight will not be a problem.

Recently put together a .243win, for shooting the dtacs. 26' barrel, 41.0gr R17, coated dtacs, #7 bartlein ss 5r/.236 bore, 1-7.7tw, 3010fps avg..... -6.3mil @1k w/200yd z,with most recent batch of dtacs).
