22RF at 1000 yards

I've shot a LOT of longrange 22 rimfire and I guess I'm one that has put a few videos up on Youtube of it. Also run longrange rimfire matches here at the house each month. Occassionally I'll drag a couple 22 rimfires out to Rayners and play with them on his lower side of his course after the matches or on a practice day. Farthest target on the lower side is 600 yards, the farthest we've been able to hit with any type of consistancy is 500 yards on his largest IPSC target and even then it has to be absolutely windless and the best we've done is 4 for 5 shots a few times. 400 yards is much better and I'd be willing to put money on hits on his 16" plate pretty consistently.

Beyond 400 yards it really starts to drop off dramatically and beyond 500 yards it's like tossing rocks at the target. Up on top of the hill we tried one day to hit the 630 yard swinger. My Win 52C can dial to 500 yards with a 50moa mount and a 20X SWFA, my son dialed all he had, used the lowest mildot, held quite a ways up in the woods on a tree limb we finally found that got up really close to the target. I can't even guess how far above the target he was holding but it was a long way and took a lot of rounds to finally land one on the plate.

Couldn't duplicate two in a row, I won't say he didn't hit a target at 1000 yards but he must have a lot better equipment and ammo than what we're using.

I've always stretched the limits of what some guns will do such as 22 rimfires and our longrange pistols we use for the 1000 yards matches but no matter what you have there is finally a wall they all hit that is the extreme outer limit to what they can do. The angle the bullet is coming down makes what seems like a huge target just a tiny horizontal slice the bullet has to impact.

Experimenting with my Freedom Arms 44 mag with a VGM mount and shooting 600 yards first clued me in. I'd get a hit then a couple misses, then a hit, when I knocked it over one day and it was lying flat the hit ratio went up quite a bit, the hit area nearly quadrupled when I got closer to matching the angle the bullet was coming in compared to what I was looking at thru the scope. I could only see a thin sliver to aim at but the bullet coming in saw a big square plate to land on.

I like to believe everyone and enjoy seeing others sharing their extreme shooting but there is a limit as to what is acceptable hit versus shots fired ratio.

I know that most BR rimfire shooters in our area think we're nuts shooting the tiny steel plates we do out thru 200/300 yards with our 22s since they deal with thousandths and bullet placement. Mother Nature is a real %&$#% when we're shooting our matches but you'd be surprised how much better you get at learning to watch wind signs.

Oh, he had a top notch rifle, a 10-22.

I am saying that Ive never hit at 1000yds with my 10-22. Not even once, let alone 5 out of 10 tries. As a matter of fact I don't even know anybody that has, do you?

Ive got a CZ 452 with a 6-20 Nikon on it and a Savage 416 with a scope that has a Boone and Crocket type reticle. I shot them at 200yds at the PBSO range with Ggmac. The CZ doesn't have enough elevation in the scope to gat all the way to 200, its about 7 inches low. I can use one of the aiming points on the Savage and hold dead on. The CZ with Federal Auto match ammo will group about 5 or 6 inches, and the Savage maybe a little better. Ive got some "RWS Target Rifle" ammo that I want to try. This is a LONNGGGGG way from 5 out of 10 at 1000yds.

I see PeeShooter changed his title to 1,000 feet now. Coming out of the gates he really believed it was 1,000 yards. The kid stuck to his guns for a while. If he ever gets to a 1,000 yard range, he'll be amazed at how far that really is.

He just said the 1000 feet was a typo , I won't add what he said in a polite pm I made to him !

Oh brother. Here I thought the poor guy had come to his senses. Well, it must be official then. He really did hit a 22" x 22" target, 5/10 times, at 1,000 yards, with a 10/22. o_O I feel bad for doubting him.

Sounds like he shot it at 1000' and took it to 1000 yard to confirm it .
I'm from Missouri you would have to show me lol Larry

I had to do it. I ran the specs through Applied Ballistic's online calculator using mid Ohio as a location and 70 degree weather conditions. These are the specs for a Remington Golden Bullet. 267 feet of drop when zeroed in at 100 yards. This would be without the bullet tumbling which I'm sure it would long before 1,000 yards. And nearly 5 feet of spin drift plus Coriolis in zero wind conditions.

Wait a minute, did someone mention Central Ohio? Is that where the original poster is from? I can meet him at Rayners to get video and verification. I thought I'd really stretched it but admit defeat at that distance. At the match on Thursday with just some slightly shifting wind there were quite a few shooters that missed all their shots at 900 and 1000 with their CF guns.

I'm not going to say he didn't do it but......... I've taken quite a few buddies out to Rayners and took them to the lower side first. They look out at the 500/600 yard stage and say..... WOW, that is a long ways out there to the 1000 yard targets. Most people don't realize how far 1000 yards really is.

This guy is so out of touch with reality that he doesn't even know which it is 1000feet or 1000yds. Yet takes on all comers. Just like in an insane asylum, happy as a clam drooling down his chin.

This isn't to confirm Peeshooter is full of it. We all knew that from page 1. To quote an internet Icon "this is better than the funny papers!" YOU ARE RIGHT ED!!!
