22RF at 1000 yards

Now there is a Feat I'd like to have someone at our club try, We shoot 200 yard matches Saturday nights. But the wind has been so bad I don't think it could be done. I know there are some guys at the club with some outstanding rifles that shoot 10 shoots under 2". But 1000 yards you better have a good spotter or one of those new cameras to know were you are hitting.
Anything is possible!

Reminds me of a shot Elmer Keith wrote about back in the 50's or early 60's. He was at a party and spotted a crow in a tree 1,000 yards off.

Now don't ask me how good his eyes were or scope or .... Might have been drink.

Anyhow he took a shot at it with a 22 rifle (think there was a short in it). He killed that crow and "crowed" about the shot.

So he hit 5 crows out of 10?

She probably "let's" you shoot it in hopes that you will dig into your pockets a bit deeper and purchase her a decent rifle. She would he better off if you take a hammer and knock the glass out of that scope so she could just look through the tube. :D
A good one! Anyway, it's just a 50 yard plinking rifle. She won't shoot my .308 because it kicks too hard. She's not much of a shooter. It may be more safe to stand in front of the target. At 25 feet, she shot 6 rounds with a .22LR revolver at a full piece of poster board. Not a hole in it. I asked her what happened. She said, "I don't know, had my eyes shut"

Consider yourself a lucky man, in a way. 30 years ago, I took my new bride to the range and taught her how to shoot pistol. She quickly became very good at it. I found it very disconcerting sometimes, like when I was coming home late from a night with the guys.;) Sneaking into the house, quietly, was dangerous.

On the 1000 yard rimfire shot? I propose we petition those Tennessee boys to try it. If any body could pull it off, they can.

A couple years ago we were shooting at 500 yards and a buddy said he wanted to try his 10-22. We used a 4'x4' cardboard target. I sat behind a berm beside the target to TRY to get him on target. We ended up trying 4 different kinds of ammo and could not get it to fly consistent enough to hit the 4'x4' target consistently. All of the ammo was just plinking ammo, nothing match grade. We would think we were figuring it out and the next shot would hit the dirt 50' short. It was a fun way to waste a couple hours but I doubt we will ever try it again.

At my silhouette range earlier this year, while sighting in my 22lr, i took a few shots at the 300 yard pigs. I had to aim at a cactus above the target and dial down the scope power so i can see impacts they were hitting so much lower, but i was able to hit around the pig. I think i did hit it a few times by seeing no impact im the dirt around it.

No reason he had to aim at actual target, but there is a reason I didn't bother to read the posts on that site.

A few years ago when the grandkids were still kids I set up targets at 100 yds. and they got pretty good at hitting them with an old scoped Rem.511-22. They were pretty consistent at hitting clay targets at that range. Quite a bit of elevation is involved at just 100 yds. 1K is a pretty good stretch. I wont say it couldn't be done but repeating the feat would be twilight zone I think.

My wife is a good shot pistol and rifle. She is recoil sensitive with rifles. Shoots deer with a Ruger Hawkeye Compact 223, Leupold 3-9X40. For target moved her from a 6PPC to a Dasher with a brake. She shot the horn off a buck last year right at the base. I asked her where she was aiming? She replied "right between the eyes". I told her sure makes me feel better than if she had said the boiler room! Then I reminded her that Ruger doesn't shoot like her target rifle and suggested she aim at a larger spot next time. :)

I think I could rig up some mounts on my Brno 4 that I could get the elevation but everybody knows there aint no RF ammo gonna hold vertical to hit a 22x22 plate 5 of 10 at 1,000,,,I would even bet against Junebug on that and thats sayin a lot,,

But I still think we should ask him to try!

Does this guy have a school where he teaches how to hit at 1000yds with a 22lr ? I need to enroll so I can show off my new talent before the next range day.
