22RF Ammo Availability

I am finding powder and bullets, but still no 22RF ammo, except target at $20.00 a box of 50. After 4 years of shortage, there has got to be an explanation. Does anybody know "the rest of the story"?

Word in my area is that the hoarders and internet sellers are still waiting for the trucks at the back door.

They caught the people working in the sports department selling the rimfire ammo in the parking lot at the local walmart ???

I went to a new Gun Shop in Waycross,Ga. last weekend. It had been open for 1week, he had 8- 325 round count boxes of Federal Match Target .22 ammo for $24.99 each. I bought 2 and my father inlaw bought one. Another Gun Store about a mile away had 9 boxes of the same ammo for $31.99 each.

My feeling is that it's findable but at 10-12 cents or more especially on the net. The 4 cent plinker ammo is gone for good. I remember buying, not too long ago, 500 rounds for 20 bucks.

I know Lead and Brass scrap prices have risen so that may be part of it . The last lead smelter in the US has been shut down .Lead now comes from out of the country .

IMHO the hoarders and price gouging resellers are most if the problem. Raw material prices are down to half of what they were at their peak a few years ago, and most of the lead used in the US is recycled. Car batteries for example are recycled at over 90%, providing the lead for new batteries and excess for other industries. Everyone wants to make a buck these days on anything they can, and unfortunately, brokering 22lr shells is taking that much more money out of all of our pockets.

Supposedly the amount being shot is way up also. The guys with the AR guns have found that it is cheaper shooting a 22 to practice then a 223. Gun sales as a whole are way up and with that goes ammunition. Then take in the hoarders and the ones that are buying for profit and it is hard to find at times. The shelves seem to empty as soon as it comes in. People at Wal Mart were caught by their supervisors selling to buddies and guys making a profit. Some of them were even warned if caught again they would be fired. It does seem to be easing up in areas. Matt

The distributors are selling to select big buy retailers, who
in turn have web sites under another name, or they farm it
out to individual sellers for a profit split.
Stop and think. Look at the big numbers available from some of
the internet sellers. You cant and wont have that quantity to sell, buying
over the counter or in the back parking lot of Wal Mart, or any other
retail outlet.
I've had 3 cases of CCI sub sonics on order for 3yrs from Jerrys, the biggest
distributor in the USA, and when I ask, "we haven't seen any of those"
I call BS on that. >:( >:( >:( LDS

It's time as an active shooting, and I refer to Dusty and Larry's post in particilar to draw a line in the sand. Both posters ma real and valid poings and if someone finds a way to limit or shut those people there will be enough for those of us that take shooting as more than just fun. Sure it's fun, but it instills moral fortitude to the generations to come as well as a bonding between parents and their youngsters that can't be duplicated and never forgotten.

My niece squirrel hunts with my anschutz 1712 and eley target. I aint got time to fight with idiots in camo at 5am hoarding ammo thats shit anyway. She just practices a tad bit less than she did with her 10-22 but she still cons me into a lot of ammo for some reason. Gotta keep up that uncle of the year status.

Read the Bulletin.

In recent days we have identified where you can purchase plenty of SK and Norma .22 LR ammo at modest prices. We have also explained how you can use Ammoseek.com to find rimfire ammo. You may be surprised by how much is actually available with online vendors.

I do read the bulletin and sk and norma are above the norm in 22lr and are worth the price, but when you see a brick of big green ammo for the same 50 bucks, it is a huge joke and insulting to everyone who knows it is not worth half that. And as the OP said premium Eley at $20 a box, I might as well be shooting 223 and getting full power practice for that price

My Ruger American 22 likes these at $7/box of 50; and if you buy 10 boxes, the price is lower: (shipping is reasonable as well)

I read the bulletin, American Eagles for $10.00 a box! THAT'S GOUGING In NY we can't mail order. I was in Buffalo this morning, Buffalo Gun Center had 15 or 20 boxes of Blazers behind the counter for $4.00, no bricks. Gander had nothing, Dicks had Winchesters for $10 a box and Cabelas was the same. Nobody had a brick of anything.

Norma TAC 22..........good stuff

$513 delivered , case price

Today at my Sportsman Warehouse I found 525 bricks of Remington Golden for $34 and 500 brick Remington Thunderbolt for $32. Quite a few bricks and they said they have been getting it in on a regular basis. Checked the local Bi-mart (regional hardware type store) and she said none this week but expect bricks next week. Sounds promising.

Also talked to the guy at the gun counter and he said there was a rush of buying the first two days after the Roseburg, OR shootings, but business has resumed to normal already. Hopefully we won't see the crazy buying sprees that resulted from Sandy Hook.
