22PPC loading advice/OAL

I have a vintage BR rifle in 22PPC with a very lightly used barrel, smithed years ago by Fred Sinclair. I have some 1960's vintage BR bullets and some 53 grain Sierra MKs. i have determined the OAL for various bullets using a Sinclair OAL gauge measuring from bolt face to Land Bearing Point, so I know whether I am "in the lands or not". Brass is necked turned 2x fired Sako.

I plan to start with a moderate load of H322 (nostalgia talking here). My question is posed to 22 PPC experienced persons.

Do I start "in the lands" for load development, or off the lands? Please tell me how you do it with this cartridge. I am 6BR and 222 experienced, but the 22 PPC is new to me.

Thanks in advance, and please, 22 PPC guys only!

I shoot a 22 PPC at squirrels with 40 g V-Max's using old 8208 powder. Hall action, bench stock and benchrest barrel. It likes to be just in of just off (.005) of the lands . Vmax's are tricky with the sharp ojive. I would start with them just at touch and work from there. MAC

Thanks Mac,

That is exactly one of the bullets I intend to try later, after I wring out the accuracy potential with BR type bullets. My daughter will use it for groundhogs, and the 40 grainer will allow for flatter shooting.

i have new 8208, but have more 322 so i plan to stick with it for now. I am liking this cartridge.

Thanks for the advice.
