22mag vs. 17HMR vs. 17BMAG

Which one would you own and why.

I have a HMR currently. I had a 22mag before. I swear the 22mag @ 100yds. was one of the best rifles I have ever owned.

Be sure to add what manufacture and general specs.

I feel the wind affects the HMR a little too much, but I have never shot the rifle past 100yds.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Dennis ,I have a ruger 77/22mag heavy barrel and it is the most accurate 22 mag I have ever owned. The b-mag is not proven in my opinion and the brass sucks and splits. The guns available being the savage is a piece of garbage. I would stick with the 22 mag first and the hmr second.

Man, I could have written the exact same thing! I no longer have the 22 mag and have a cheap 17HMR. I think it would be ok for PD's but it lacks ooomph for groundhogs. I use it only when I have close shots around farm buildings etc. I picked up and held a BMAG and nearly dropped it because I have never seen such a piece of junk called a firearm. Savage has a cool idea, too bad the gun looks like middle school boys designed and built it.

Re: 22WSM vs. 17HMR vs. 17BMAG

This is why I am seeking other opinions.

For 2 years now, I really miss my 22mag.

I think I may sell my "last" HMR, and I am leaning toward a CZ 22mag.

Anybody have a better idea?

By the way, when I was a kid somewhere in he 70's, I bought a cheap Marlin Glenfield 22mag with a 4-12 power scope. I can't express how much I miss this rifle. Rimming a quarter @ 100 yards was almost effortless. My HMR is like a women, it will do it when it wants to. Sorry, I might not have said this. I also find I must clean the HMR every 40 rounds. I didn't even own a cleaning kit for my 22mag. It never lost it accuracy.

It is a shame we don't live closer, I would love to let you shoot my Ruger as it is truly one accurate little rifle that is boringly accurate.

I've had Annies in both 17HMR , 22 Mag and a Ruger in 17 HMR. The 17's are long gone and the 22 mags are still shooting. ??? Clarify the 22 WSM ,,Centerfire correct ?and the 17 B-Mag is Winchesters "new" RF 17 round in the Ruger B-Mag rifle.

Jon, I may lean towards the Ruger. I do have my eye on a CZ as well!

Is the Ruger known for being consistent, I mean do they all shoot accurately?

The one I had was a 77 HB model, laminate with heavy barrel. It was the only 22 mag I have ever owned that shot GREAT. It did well with the then new FAST lighter bullets. Groundhog thumper!

CZ also makes a fine rifle and they are new! (I guess you could get a new 77, but I like the old ones) BTW, I had a 77 in hornet and it was pretty, but it was downright the worst CF I ever owned. it shot horribly! Never so glad to sell a gun and hope it did not show up on my porch again in the summer with a basket of zuchini.

by "17bmag" you mean 17wsm.......right?

No, the next level above the HMR. I thought the B Mag was a rimfire. I have looked and handled them, but I didn't look at the bolt.

I understand it was referred to a 17HMR Magnum, and ended up with the name: B Mag

I might be turned around, but all I have ever heard it called was the new B Mag.

B-Mag is Rugers name for their rifle that chambers the 17 WSM. 17 WSM (17 Winchester Super Mag) Loosely based on Olins 22cal Rim-fire nailgun blanks. A larger, faster (than the 17 HMR) rim-fire

as was said...."Bmag" is the gun, not the round. The round is 17wsm

All in All, it looks like everyone, or most everyone is favoring the good ole 22mag (rimfire).

When I got rid of the 22mag and acquired the 17HMR, I was very excited. I rarely shoot it now, and in fact I would sell it or trade it.

It's something about the 22mag I love.
