.22LR ammo question?

A buddy of mine had a box of .22 LR bullets when I was visiting him in Georgia. We went out and was doing some plinking the one day. Each time he shot, I only heard a "whisper" of noise. Almost as if the gun was silenced, but it wasn't. He said that they were a very "low noise ammo" and worked great for controlling pesky critters without disturbing the entire neighborhood. For the life of me I can not remember the brand of these and he is now in the military fight for us. Has anyone very heard of such ammo? If so, could you please direct me to a supplier as I would like to purchase some. Thanks in advance.

Could be a couple different loads/brands.,1) CCI CB caps,,2)Aguilla subsonic,or,3),made by several Manufactures) various short target loadings are very quiet.

I'm not sure just what you mean when you say "I only heard a "whisper" of noise". If you shoot regular ammo from a sporting good store you are most likely shooting super sonic speed ammo. But if I had to guess. You said the guy was from GA. I bet he had target ammo like Eley. It is sub sonic around 1030 - 1080 fps. The target ammo I'm thinking of is a lot quieter than your regular ammo because it doesn't break the sound barrier which causes the sharp crack you here when fired. Also if I had to guess, he knows Bob Collins from GA. which happens to be an Eley dealer from GA. Just a guess but it might help you put things together.

Subsonic .22rf amo is very quiet because of very low velocity.
Winchester,Remington,CCI,Lapua,Eley,RWS,Aguila make them.
Price very from $3.16 to $22.40 per box of 50.

Read Hot Rod 9mm post. Im putting my money on the Aguila Super Colibri. It has NO GUNPOWDER, just the primer and the 20gr lead bullet. 500-600pfs. Just like a regular pellet rifle except in a 22LR. Nice in the back yard out the window round. Its been around for several years, im suprised most of you have not heard of it. I think I paid $20.00 a Carton of 500 for them about 5 years ago. Neat lil fellas, there kinda fun to shoot. : )

On a very regular basis, NOT FROM MY Anschutz rifles, I use
C.C.I. - CB long, I don't now if they even make a Long-Rifle ).
Typical accuracy from a second-floor window ledge, shooting at
squirrels digging in my grass, they usually fall-ill-dead from
lead-poisoning INSTANTLY, within 30yds.
They have PRIMER-ONLY, with no powder - which makes them
very, very quiet!! Give a box of 100 a try, I think you'll
like them. C.C.I. - CB - Long

Shoot Safe & think "X's"

Just a little addition to this thread: I have used the CCI CB Longs for many years & they are very quiet, but lacking a little in the accuracy dept. I recently compared several 22 LR ammos for noise level & found the Aguila Subsonic 38gr HP to be the quietest. Can't remember exactly which different ammo it was, but included Aguila 60gr SSS,way louder than I would have thought), Eley, SK & Lapua pistol match. The Subsonic 38gr HP is also very accurate in several rifles I tried it in. The Super Colibri is quiet, but not very accurate, plus it is not recommended for rifles because they say it might not make it out of the barrel,I would guess they mean fairly long RF barrels).
