22br

I have one more question if i get my 22br remington rechambered to accept 22br lapua brass can i use my same 22br remington full length sizeing die or do i need to buy a die for the lapua cases and if so what dies do i try to find thank you

Is there anyone that sells the brass already formed for lapua 22br

I shoots tons of 22br lapua. It's super easy to make. Most just drop the correct 224 diameter bushing in a FL bushing die and size down all in one step without issue.

I personally grab a bushing size in the middle and size down half way, then size a second time with my final 224 bushing then run a mandrel into the neck and go shoot.

Stupid accurate and brass lasts forever. I have some over 30 firings that started out it's first 12 firings as 6br before I necked down to 22br...

I have a reading 22 bench. Rest Remington die always work in that

I have Redding dies, the regular three die set. Ran 6br brass through the full length, then shot it. One pass, done.

Only odd deal was I had a 6br Remington the brass would not work with 6br Norma. Too fat at the shoulder. I ran it through a 6br small base body die, then through my 22br full length die. It was snug chambering the first two times, not horrid but I could feel it. That brass is on its 12th go around. It had 5 rounds as 6br before.

Just full length sizing that brass to 22br, it wouldn’t chamber at all, had to have the small base body die.

I have lapua and Peterson brass for 22br use. The Peterson averages about .003” thicker at the neck.

All that aside, is yours not shooting well? I wouldn’t bother if it is.

Definitely maybe. It will depend on the chamber/die dimensions you're working with.

Long before the Norma BR was a thing I had a 22BR which used the 308 size Remington BR cases formed to fit. I do have a feeling the Rem. BR was a touch smaller above the extractor groove than the Norma spec. stuff. The rifle is long gone & I believe the brass went with it, so no way to measure anything.

Just got a new 22BR, but still using dies from c.1990. The old Redding FL die (marked 22 B.R. Remington) sizes the fired Peterson 6 BR Norma brass down to 22 with little effort. The old Forster FL die is a serious bit of a hump on the press handle, not quite shaving brass but definitely burnishing the case down to the .200 line. I really dont think it was that hard with the old rifle. Sized cases measure .002-.003" different at the .200" line & c. .002" different at point of shoulder with the Redding die being larger in both instances. The old Wilson seating die is also a tad snug at the base, but a thumbnail easily gets the loaded round out.

Due to weather & damn doctor appts. on nice days, it's only been to the range once so far so dont really know if the smaller Forster die will be needed or if, hopefully, it can be opened up a bit to be more usable. A few more firings will tell the rest of the story. New Lapua is in the mail too.

As a side note, when making the 1st set of test fire rounds, the rifle wasn't finished & I had no current info for case length. The 22BR diagram from article on the main page here...

...showed that should be 1.520" so trimmed the first 20 cases to 1.515". They were way short for the new chamber. Guessing the regular 6BR Norma length of 1.560" is the new standard. Notice the carbon starting after 12 rounds with 1.515" brass?

Same chamber with 1.562" long brass
