need help with 22BR

hello, is there anyway I can use norma or lapua brass in my 22br chamber my loaded rounds with remington cases is .250 the cases measure .255 after shooting i have redding full length dies what do I need to do to use lapua cases thank you

First off, what you need to know is the "actual" length of your chamber. That will tell you how long the case can get before it needs to be trimmed and if the Lapua/Norma brass will fit.
New Lapua 6BR brass measures at 1.554/1.555
Necked down to 22 BR will be longer.
Trim length for 6BR is 1.560. 22BR will be whatever you want.
My chambers for 6BR and 22BR measure 1.585 so I've got lots of room before I need to start thinking about trimming brass.
Sinclair makes a chamber measuring plug that is used in a shortened case to get your measurements. Once you know what the "actual" chamber length, you're set. See if a Lapua/Norma case will fit the chamber and make sure the chamber is longe enough.
You may already have a Lapua/Norma length chamber. Check and see. ;)

I have a .22 Benchrest Norma. What you need to find out is your gun chambered in 22 BR Remington or 22 BR Norma. The difference between the two is the chamber length. In the 22 BR Remington (older chambering) the case chamber length is 1.520 on the 22 BR Norma the length is 1.560. Both chamberings come in standard no turn neck .254 and in tight neck chambering of .246

I use Lapua BR Norma brass, trim to 1.570 and neck turn just to remove high spots, then neck size .002 smaller than a loaded round.

Best to consult with a smith and find out which you have then make your modifications as necessary. In my opinion the BR Norma brass from Lapua is the only choice.

so why can"t I just trim the lapua case to the size of my remington case if the chamber is shorter thanks again

You can certainly do that, however, if your chamber is actually 22 BR Norma, you will have trimmed all your brass too short.

What exactly does the headstamp on the bottom of your brass say? I am curious as to what brass was used for your current loading.

So that means that your Remington brass has a short neck, not longer like the Lapua or Norma.
You need to measure the chamber length.
Or, see if Lapua or Norma BR brass will fit in the chamber and the bolt closes.
If it was me, I wouldn't be trimming the brass if I didn't need to and for sure, not Lapua or even Norma.

ok Thank You I will cast the chamber and then go from there I don't have any lapua or norma brass to check so i'll give this a try

If the chamber was cut for 6BR Remington brass no matter how far you trim the brass back, 6BR Norma will not fit. The base dia of the Lupua 6 BR norm is larger than the Remington brass. Me and Dave Kiff went through this last winter. He ground a reamer thinking that I was going to use Remington Brass. My smith went crazy wondering why the brass I gave him would not fit the new chamber. I pulled some reamer prints and compared the Rem and Laupa chambers. The lapua reamer is about .006 larger than the Remington. My 6BR brass sizes to 22 BR fits with out trimming the neck back. I sent the reamer back and Dave did a re-grind for free.

so then all i have to do is try a lapua or norma brass and if they dont chamber then i have a remington chamber if thats the case i got to find me a couple pieces of brass. thanks joe

As the .22 BR has never been manufactured, you will have to find either the 6mm BR brass by Remington (which, unfortunately has been discontinued) or get some 7mm BR brass (which is still available from sources such as Midway) and reduce the neck. After reducing the neck diameter, you will almost certainly need to turn the neck down.
