22BR v 22BRA

Well, I have been trying to decide on what 22 cal I want to shoot 60-85 grain bullets, and after lots of discussion I have moved from the 22 creed to 22br.

I’m getting ready to have @urbanrifleman spin me up a barrel, and want your opinion. Mainly I will be shooting 77 grain smks, but will try others as well.

Would you do the 22br, or the 22bra. And also, 1:7 or 1:8?

22BR has plenty of powder room and readily available dies. Trimming in this cartridge is nearly nonexistent after the first trim to get the cases from ~1.565 as-sized to less 1.55” to fit standard chambers. This isn’t a 30-06. It’s short and has minimal body taper. I trimmed them up again after 8 reload cycles and it was mostly just truing them up.

Never owned a 22BRA, I’ve owned two 22BR rifles and enjoyed them both. Very capable cartridge. 1-8 for the bullet weight you mention. Brass is easy to get, barrel life is decent, certainly more than a 22 creed if that matters to you, very accurate and it’s just cool.

To answer your other questions, a 1:7 opens pandora’s box for bullet blow ups. A 1:8 is safer. If you’re planning to shoot 77gn, maybe branch out to 80s, then a 1:8 is plenty and would be the recommended choice.

I got one his in 22bra, 8 twist.
Shot a two matches with it. I loves 80g smks.
Shot lots of one's with it. It almost out shot my 6bra yesterday.
My 22bra only had a fixed 16x on top.
The 6bra had a fine cross hair 50x on top.

Found a better load for my 22bra last week. It's better for longer ranges. Just faster. Shoots as good as the mid charge of Imr 4350.
30.8 of 15.5. hope to map it tomorrow
