22BR Loads Wanted

I’m kicking around the idea of building a 22BR for Varmint hunting. I want to shoot the heavy 80-88gr bullets. I plan to use either Lapua or Peterson 6BR Brass and neck it down. What’s everyone’s loads using these heavy bullets in the 22BR? Planning to use/try IMR 8208, IMR 4166, Varget, H4350, and RL16. I’m hoping for 3000-3050FPS with the 88 ELD from a 26” barrel without excessive pressure. Thanks

I’m running 80 grain Bergers with H4350 and have also had good luck with IMR4350

Speeds with the 80 is at 3150 from a 24” barrel.

I agree with the post above an 8 twist is all you need for the 22BR and stick with the 85.5, 80 or 75 class bullets.

They’re the funnest of the fast twist 22 caliber rifles I’ve played with.

Lapua "no turn" brass, 8 Twist barrel, ZERO freebore and start off with the lightest bullets you can get your hands on. Then, go heavier as the throat wears. (and it will, probably faster than you expect)o_O
And be forewarned. You "don't bump up the powder charge" on a 22 BR like you would with a 6 BR. You'll NEVER find a hammer big enough to beat the bolt open when you bumped the charge up by about a half a grain.:eek:
And don't worry about the speed either. Never saw anything out run either of the BRs.;)
Go slow and enjoy the ride.:D

Went testing today with 22BR and 85.5 Bergers. Hit 3137fps @ 30.0 Varget. 7 twist barrel

In a zero freebore chamber, 14 and 12 twists, I ran 50g noslers at 3850 with 30.5g of R#15, Remington brass. Bug holes abound. P. Dogs from 50-400 were decimated, with a battlefield of white bellies basking in the Sun.

7.5 or 7.7 twist. 75-88 will hold up and unless you run very slow should stabilize fine to 1000+. Tons of fun and super accurate.
