It really needs a 12" or faster twist - they are very long (0.830").

+2 on what Catshooter said. I called Hornady and it is the twist recommended by the tech. I plan on using them in my 220 Swift when it is finished and my 22-250 savage as a test for group size out to 300 yds (limit of my local range).

Mine is "in the works" i went the 22BRDX route with mine, for a little more speed.

No load data to reoprt as of yet,it`s kinda hard to shoot without a stock...... :o

9 twist, 26 inch barrel, Varget, Lapua brass, Fed 205M primers. Enjoy your .250" or less groups!! You won't get that with a 12 twist!

Hi l use 33.2 grains of vit n140 or tr140 and same with varget with fed small match primers 10 thou off lands , 1 in 12 twist , 26 inch barrel , shoots well
this is my loads so WORK UP

LCazador - Re: 22BR Loads Using 53gr Vmax

Is this a stupid question - why will a 9 twist be more accurate than a 12 twist? I still have barrels with 12 & 14 twists from the earl 90's and am becoming more interested in going with the fast twists for prairie dog shooting. Finally got back into PD shooting after a 20 year hiatus.

A 9" wist may be more accurate, or it may not. As long as the twist is fast enough for the bullet, each barrel can be a surprise.

I sure enjoy shooting the 53 V-Max,and really like the b.c. of .295.Powder is IMR8208.Twist is 1-12"
While I am shooting them from a 14" XP-100 in .223 and am getting 3200fps,I'm following this post
to see some real world velocity #'s from the BR case.I think the 22BR/12 twist 53V-Max from a rifle or XP-100 would be an awesome combo.
I would guess depending on barrel length a guy would get 3700fps pretty easily,a friend of mine had a 22BR back in the day and he got
damn near .22-250 velocities with out pushing it too hard and great accuracy to boot.

There is a not so tall tale of a member that has gotten his 22BR to 3830fps. with the 53 vmax, can`t recall the barrel length.....

Glad to find this, just took possesion of a Bartlein 12 twist, Varmint contour, have IMR8208 and wanted to try the 53 Hornadys.

Kinda don't understand the 12 twist thing you guys have going on these. I've shot them in a 222 1-14 twist at 3300 and had groups in the high .1s.

For the 53 V-Max? Most .22-250's make keyholes with a 1-14. My .223 with a 1-12 shoots them well.
