22BR gets a bad rap

I have a 22 br varmint rig with a .246 neck Krieger barrel on a savage action with the nut removed. My rifle shoots most powders pretty good but it seems to really like N-135 and AA 2520 the best. I have tried varget, benchmark, 2230, 2460 and 10x. N-135 just shoots better groups with about any charge I put in it. I have noticed that my br kind of likes all powders on the warm side before it wants to put the groups together. currently I'm loading 31.2 grains of N-135 with 52-53 grain bullets. You can go to about 32.8 gr of AA 2520 with 52-53 grain bullets, but always start a few grains lower and work your way up. There's a lot of variance between powder batches.

I have a 22 BR in a 40X and it shoots in the low .2's. I like it alot. 6BR neck them down and there you go!

I dont even have the barrel yet, but I have preped 100 round so far of 6BR brass in to 22BR. And I just heard the barrel is not far off. Im using a Savage 223 action, and changing the bolt head, replacing the trigger with a Rifle-Basic Sav 2 unit, and all the parts are on the bench, including the barrel wrenches.
As I load for several 223s, I do have and assortment of bullets, as well as powders. All I need now is a barrel, isn't that always the case.

A 22BR is what I have used for 90% of my F class shooting from 300-1100 yds, with 8 and 9' twist barrels). I love it. Accuracy is great, barrel life has been good, very little recoil. If the weight limit here for F class was lighter than what it is, I would stay with a 22BR, instead of going to a slightly bigger caliber. I won a lot of shoots with it against the usual contenders such as 6mms and 6.5s. I will be keeping my reamer, cases and dies for when I make up a varmint type rifle.

Thanks guys, I dont always take what Sierra prints in the opinion section of there reloading book, its like everything else in there book, its just there opinion with a little info mixed in. And I know there loads are rather conservative.

I have always wanted a hot, flat shooting 22, but the thought of a 22-250 just never turned me on. But I think this 22BR will fill the bill just fine.

I have all the parts sitting on my bench to complete my new 22BR, and Im just waiting on the barrel. So soon, I to will have a 22BR to go with my 6BR, and will be adding one more to my collection. I think that will make 43 total, but I cant stop.

I have 100 rounds of brass waiting to get powder and bullets for its break in and fire forming of brass, then Im off and running with load development, and record keeping.

This Savage will be a short range BR gun,,100 and 200 yds paper puncher) so light flat base bullets will be the order of the day.
So Thanks for the info and opinions guys, It all helps.
Mike.

Sierra's take on the 22BR....don't know how you see it as a bad rap. Their description is right. What is it you want them to say? The 22BR's a very accurate very good cartridge. The 6BR is more convenient, at least as accurate, and makes a little heavier bullet go just as fast. I have 2-22BR's and like them very much but think the 6BR is better.

Well, just things like, its fallen by the wayside, not vary popular Etc.,not to quote there book) I also have a 6BR, and am not making a 22BR because its either better or worse, its just different. And I believe its popularity is growing, not slowing. I think there written opinion is behind the times.
