22br die question

im going to have a 22 br built with .254 no turn neck
i will buy the redding 22br bushing die set with .252 neck bushing my current worry is will i be able to seat a bullet after this process or is there something missing is there an expander in one of these dies if there is does this mess with the no turn neck
if you can make sense of this plese help

Expander balls BLOWget rid of it. While I am a huge fan of the Redding type S fl sizing die, when it comes to the BR and the PPC cases, I feel the Harrells die is a better option. Send Lynwood and Walter 2 cases that have been fired at least twice in your rifle, and you will get in return a die that matches your chamber like no factory die can.

Measure the neck on a loaded round, take .002 off that measurement and you will have the right bushing size. I personally like to have at leas 2 bushings, one that is .002 and one that is .003 below loaded dimension. This lets you adjust tension.

Measure the bullet diameter that your using, and the neck thickness of the brass case X 2 and you have the loaded round measurement..........

If you're willing to sacrifice one bullet, you can seat it with a hammer. Just chamfer the neck then put the bullet in nose first. Tap the bullet's base gently with a hammer,or the handle of a screwdriver), untill you get the full diameter filling at least half the neck. then measure that.

Later you can use an impact bullet puller to remove the bullet from the case.

i just tried a 6mm bullet in the 6br case and i was able to push it in with my fingers

on the micrometer it read .270 so necked down to 22 how much more thickness do you think i will gain by necking down

also would it be easier for me to just buy 22br redding non bushing dies and make up a round, measure it and have a reamer made to fit the neck size remembering i dont want to neck turn

A .252 bushing is probably too big for a 22 BR. A loaded round (mine) of Lapua or Alpha measures .251. Take off .002 and you're about .249 for your bushing. I am using a .248 bushing and then a .222- mandrel to expand. I believe I have seen others using a .248 bushing for a no-turn 22 BR.

This 6 BR brass started at about .0125 and is .0130-.0140 ish after necking down.

I agree about ditching the expander ball. I also agree about the Harrell's die. Fine piece of gear.
